Alameda B. Baptiste Rocha, age 59, of St. Paul, MN formerly of Wolf Point, MT died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Hospice Center in St. Paul, MN, after an extended bout with cancer. She was born to Jeanette Carrier Baptiste and Peter Baptiste of September 29, 1953, in Devils Lake, ND. She was enrolled at the Fort Peck Reservation, and lived in Glasgow and Wolf Point, where she attended school. She later moved to Minneapolis where she married C. Hardy. To this marriage was born Sheila Marie and Darwin Allen Hardy. The couple was divorced, and Alameda married later to Carson Walking Eagle. To this marriage, Colleen Walking Eagle of St. Cloud, MN was born.
Alameda had a calling to serve the Creator. She had done the Sundance for four years. Her mission was to help all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Sheila Marie and Darwin Allen; and all of her brothers and sisters, Bessie Reddog, Almeda, Clifford, Benjamin and Vincent Looking, and Merida and Zola Baptiste.
Alameda is survived by her daughter, Colleen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A traditional four day feast was held at the Oswego Community Hall on Saturday, July 20 with Joe Miller serving as pipeman. A wake will be held 7 p.m. Monday, July 22 at the Wolf Point Community Hall. A funeral service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, July 23 at the Wolf Point Community Hall with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Alameda will be interred next to her sister, Zola, at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar.
