Alice Harris

April 13, 1933 — January 29, 2015

Alice LaVerne Pereau Harris, 81, slipped peacefully away early Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point, Montana.  Alice was born on April 13, 1933 to Vernon J. Pereau and Stella Barse Pereau.

Alice was blessed to have met and married her soulmate Roy Omar Harris on January 17, 1959 in Columbus, Montana.  Their love for each other brought to them two beautiful children.  Joseph Paul and Joan Marie both passed away in their youth.  Despite the great loss of their children, Alice and Roy remained devoted to their faith in the Lord and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Alice and her beloved husband Roy kept an open heart and a kind word for all they knew.

Alice spent many years of her youth in the home of her grandmother American Horse being taught the disciplines of her Sioux culture and heritage.  Early in life, Alice was given her grandma’s name “Good Hearted Woman” (Sioux translation) Cant’e Wa’ste Winyan.  She lived up to her name throughout her life; her generosity was beyond comparison.  Alice was deeply proud of her Sioux heritage because she was the great granddaughter of “Chief American Horse.”

Alice is survived by her daughter Roxanne Gourneau, her brother John (Arliss) Pereau, her sister Nancy (Bill) Williams, the Redstone family, the Smith family, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice is preceded in death by her beloved husband Roy, children Joseph Paul and Joan Marie, her parents Vernon and Stella Pereau, her brother Robert Pereau, and her sister Joan Redstone.
