Alvin “John” Yellowrobe

July 13, 1951 — June 27, 2017

Alvin John Yellowrobe, age 65, passed away Tuesday June 27 in Billings, Montana surrounded by his loving family. Alvin “John” Yellowrobe was born July 13 th to Calvin “Skip” Yellowrobe and Ruth Smith and adopted by Caroline Yellowrobe.

John Yellowrobe attended school in Poplar, Montana and Pine Ridge, South Dakota and graduated May of 1969 from Pine Ridge. On December 13 th 1970 John enlisted in the United States Air Force serving two tours in Vietnam. Being honorably discharged in 1976. In 1977, he enlisted and served four years in the United States Army as a Calvary Scout.

John was so proud of his dad Skip Yellowrobe who instilled the love of his country at such a young age. Shortly after discharge, John went to Police Academy in Artesia, New Mexico. John was a police officer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Fort Peck Tribes retiring as SGT in 1998. During this time, he was a training sergeant to many upcoming officers, and made lifelong friends. In 2000, he worked at the Fort Peck Community College/Wolf Point Wellness Center where he received his fitness training certificate. He loved all the people that entered the Wellness and made many friends.

Anyone who knew John knew of his big smile and humor that always can make one laugh. John had many stories for every situation. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandkids. He loved his family, fishing, and shooting (always showing off his marksmen skills). He enjoyed playing cribbage and barbequing with family. John enjoyed listening to music of all kinds especially Northern Cree. In John’s early years he played in a band that played at many events in Montana and South Dakota.

John is survived by his wife, Christy Birdsbill-Yellowrobe; his daughters, Jasmine Yellowrobe, Jade Yellowrobe, Jennifer Yellowrobe, and Kiana Yellowrobe of Wolf Point, Montana; his sons, John Yellowrobe of Wolf Point, Montana, Amuayvit Poolsap (Peter Yellowrobe) of Rayong, Thailand and special adopted son Harlin (Brandi) Burshia; his sisters Ardis (Jeff) Cecil, Vicki (Loren) Bisbee, and Denise (Susie) Smith; his Grandchildren Nevaeh, Caitlyn, Natalia, Kelsie, Dre’An, Devon, Dai’Jon, Matthew, Noah, Kaidynce, Ahleeha Burshia, and Shastin Damon and Great grandchildren Jace, Eragon and Caroline.

John is proceeded in death by his father and mother Calvin and Caroline Yellowrobe, his brother Paul Milo Smith, and his adopted brothers Leroy Jordan and Elliot Vermillion.

John can now rest and rejoice in heaven with all his family and friends.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. Cremation and burial to follow later.
