Arne Traeholt, age 86, of Wolf Point, MT passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Billings, MT.
Arne Traeholt was born in the family home in Klokkerholm, Denmark on January 4 th , 1928 to Einar and Margarethe (Ibsen) Traeholt. When Arne was a young child, the family left Denmark and settled in Scobey, Montana. He grew up helping on their dairy farm, and attended school in Scobey through the 8 th grade. The family then moved to Wolf Point and Arne graduated from high school there in 1946.
During his high school years, Arne worked for several area farmers and ranchers, including Sethres, Beerys and Brookmans. After serving with the armed forces in Korea, Arne continued his education in Missoula, and received his accounting degree from Kinman Business University in Spokane. It was there that he met and married Dorothy Cosby. The newlyweds lived two years in Whitefish, MT then made their home in Wolf Point. Arne worked for Frank Hanel Camrud Motors before establishing his own accounting practice in 1961.
Arne was active in many civic organizations, including JC’s, Chamber of Commerce, and Lions; he was also Wild Horse Stampede secretary (before the “computer age”!) He served on the hospital board for several years, many of those years as Chairman. He was clerk for School District #3 for over 20 years.
Arne was an active member of First Lutheran Church, holding many different positions on the church board, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. Arne pursued his passion for golfing throughout the years at the Airport Golf Club, where he served as secretary/treasurer, in addition to working on improvements to the course. After retirement he enjoyed making golf clubs for friends and family. Arne had a lifelong love for music and ‘Grandpa’ especially enjoyed sing-alongs while traveling with kids and grandkids.
Arne was preceded in death by his son Alan, and by his parents and his sister Ida. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughters Kay (Robert) Snyder, Burnett, TX; Karen (Gary) Jeide, Wolf Point; Kim (Tim) Klasna, Lambert, MT; Karla (Robin)Martinez, Billings, MT; daughter-in-law, Karen Traeholt, Bismarck, ND; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister Mary (Dwight) Baker, Columbia Falls, MT; brothers Jens (Jan) Traeholt, Bismarck, ND; Carl (Cheryll) Traeholt, Wolf Point; Don (Eileen) Traeholt, Lustre, MT.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point.
