Austin Spotted Wolf

Austin “Moose” Spotted Wolf passed away on November 28, 2020 in Poplar, Montana. He was born on September 13, 1958 in Poplar, Montana to Vera B. Roberts and George S. Spotted Wolf, Jr. He was raised by Yvonne Smoker-Broaddus, Charles Gopher, Ed Broaddus, and George and Linda Dean. He resided in Frazer, Montana but previously spend some of his life in Great Falls, Montana.

Austin was involved in baseball, basketball, and cross-country while in school (1974-1977). In 1976, he made the Frazer highschool hall of fame for cross-country and in 1977, he was Frazer basketballs conference champ. In June 1977, Austin went into the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. He then went on to Norfolk, Virginia for U.S.N Technical. He was stationed on the U.S. Midway and went to Japan, the Philippines, and Africa.

In August 1981, he returned back to Frazer, Montana and got reacquainted with Phyllis Runs Through and they started their family. He worked in various capacities at A&S Industries as a clerk and Q.A. night shift bus driver. He then worked at Headstart as a parent volunteer bus driver.

Austin served on the Red Bottom Celebration Committee as a flag keeper in 1993 and a drum-keeper on several occasions.

In July 1995, Austin and Phyllis relocated their family to St. George, Utah and they married on December 16, 1995. He worked for Laidlaw Waste and Red Rock Waste as a sanitation truck driver for his family until his return back to the Fort Peck reservation in 2008.

He enjoyed bingo, keno, basketball games, the Seattle Seahawks, pow-wows, singing Indian songs, handgames and working in the yard. He also really enjoyed having “A good time” with friends, family, and relatives, as well as having “A cold one”.

Austin and Phyllis had 6 children and were given 19 grandchildren.

Phyllis’ parents, Mason and Irene (Deceased), as well as her siblings, Vincent, Mason jr., Anthony, Adam, Rose, Eldon, Mathew and their families all loved Austin being their son, brother, uncle and grandpa in the Runs Through family.

Austin is survived by his children, Jonah E. and his children, Ethan (Athena), Asya, and Ecko; Kristy L. (Emerson “Ronski”) and their children, Ashton and Austin; Ailene R. and children Brianna and Kallen; Sean R. and children Dalton, Keric, Di’neah, and Nyko; Leita R. and children Luis, Casey, Janessa, and Kane; and Amy (Trenton) and their children Lucian, RyLynn, and Kredence; his siblings, Ivan P. Roberts of Poplar, Montana, Linda J. (George) Dean of Miles City, Montana, Agnes L. Spotted Wolf of Wolf Point, Montana, Mandy Y. Smoker-Broaddus of Helena, Montana, Neva R. and JoAnna Spotted Wolf of Poplar, Montana, and Lucinda M. Standing Bear of Poplar, Montana.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; grandkid, Mert; Aunts; Uncles; siblings, Lloyd m. Spotted Wolf, Clarence G. Spotted Wolf, and August “Jug” Spotted Wolf; and relatives of the Roberts, Spotted Wolf, Red Boy, Smoker, Big Leggins, and Blount families in Montana and North Dakota.

Moose played many roles in his life as a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December, 12, 2020 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery.
