Bertha Schultz, age 90, of Wolf Point, Montana passed away September 12, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Nursing Home.
She was born January 2, 1919 in her grandparents sod house on the prairie in the community of Pure Water, Garfield County, Montana. She was the first of 14 children born to Gottlieb and Christina (Schauer) Ackerman.
When she was 7 years old, the family moved north of Wolf Point to Volt, Montana. In the fall of 1936, the family moved to Quilcene, Washington. A few months later neighbor, Rudolph Schultz, arrived from Montana and stayed the winter in the Ackerman’s yard. Bertha and Rudolph were married March 17, 1937 in Port Townsend, Washington and then moved to Rudolph’s farm in Montana. They lived there until about 1951 when they moved to a farm near Simms, Montana. In 1952, returned to Wolf Point, and continued farming their land twenty-five miles to the north of town in the Lustre area.
Bertha was a Charter Member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Wolf Point. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, The Alter Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, Degree of Honor, and the Wolf Point Senior Citizen. She worked ten years at Faith Lutheran Home doing baking and preparing meals. Her hobbies included embroidering, ballpoint painting and making quilts. She was known, by her family, for her delicious homemade caramel cinnamon roll. She loved to travel.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, in December of 1986 and an infant great granddaughter, Erica K. Sroczynski, in May of 2006. She is survived by their children: Adeline (James) Kantor, of Albuquerque, MN; Wanita (Perry) Stupy of Amado, AZ / Fort Benton, MT; Lyla (Joseph) Amato, of Havre, MT; Vivian (John) Knutson of Great Falls, MT; and LeRoy Schultz of Wolf Point, MT; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was the sister of: the late Ida Koch; the late Rudolph Ackerman; the late Edwin Ackerman; Alvin Ackerman; the late Esther Axon; the late (infant) Billie Ackerman; the late John L. Ackerman; Carl Ackerman; Tillie Springer; Marvin Ackerman; Herbert Ackerman; Elmer Ackerman; and Betty Singleton.
Her Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
