Beverly Joy Blacktail Ackerman, age 78, of Wolf Point, MT passed away August 22, 2009 in Wolf Point.
Beverly was born October 17, 1930 in Wolf Point to Daniel and Agnes (Warrior) Blacktail. She attended Wolf Point High School and graduated in 1948. She also attended and graduated from Haskell Indian School. She served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Beverly married Randolph Ackerman on December 5, 1966. They spent a year in Oakland, CA in 1968. Randolph passed away on February 6, 1977.
Beverly was involved in the Presbyterian Church until she became a member of the Catholic Church in 1980. She was involved in Voices for Children and the Women’s Warrior Society. She worked for the BIA, was a clerk for Tribal Court and was a CHR for Indian Health Services.
Beverly loved traveling and following the powwow trail and watching her children dance. Spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren was very important to her. She loved going to rummage sales, playing solitaire and reading.
Beverly is preceded in death by her father, Dan Blacktail, mother, Agnes Wetsit, husband, Randolph Moses Ackerman and sister, Elanor Blacktail and aunt Eunice Denny.
She is survived by her daughter, Candace Ackerman of Wolf Point; sons, Daniel Ackerman of Wolf Point and Leslie Eric Ackerman of Rochester, MN; stepson, Randolph Thomas Ackerman of Portland, OR; grandsons, Randolph Onstad, Timothy Onstad, Lance Onstad and Lane Gilbertson, all of Wolf Point; granddaughter, Laci Ackerman of Wolf Point and great-granddaughter, Athena Onstad of Wolf Point; and also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Vigil Service and Wake will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Wolf Point Community Hall. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wolf Point. Interment will follow at King Cemetery.
