Bill L. Combs, age 81, of Poplar, MT, formerly of Roy, MT and Helena, MT; passed away of natural causes on April 6, 2010.
Bill was born on February 2, 1929 to Jay and Ethlene (Barker) Combs.
Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army for active duty in 1951 and served in the 223rd Infantry Regiment. He received a Combat Infantry Badge, United Nation Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star. Bill was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal in April 1953, and then was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve for 5 years.
Bill married Lois Hagadone on February 6, 1953 in Poplar, MT and of this union 6 children were born, Mike, Dean, Bill, Diane, Dave, and John. Bill and Lois later divorced.
He was a farmer and enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, and John Wayne movies.
In the past 10 years, Bill lived in the Poplar area. Prior to moving to Poplar, Bill was apart of the Roy, MT community for 5 years and the Helena, MT community for 15 years.
Bill was preceded in death by parents, Jay and Ethlene Combs, and his brother Dean Combs.
Bill is survived by 6 children, a daughter, Diane (Charlie) Marottek of Poplar, MT; 5 sons, Mike (Terry) Combs and Dean Combs of Havre, MT, Bill (Debbie) Combs of Grass Range, MT, Dave Combs of Poplar, MT, and John (Cheryl) Combs of Alger, WA; 3 siblings, a brother, Butch (Mae) Combs of Kelso, WA, and 2 sisters, Doris Carson of Yelm, WA, and Darlene Combs of Deerlodge, MT; a cousin Berta Lee Combs MacDonald; 3 grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, and Brittany Combs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 2 PM at the Poplar City Cemetery, in Poplar, MT.
