Cameron “Cj” Azure

September 14, 1983 — July 31, 2023

Cameron James Azure (Iron Spirit-Maza Nagi) an enrolled member of the Xosa-gah band of Hidatsa, child of The Antelope Society, aged 39 was born on September 14, 1983 to loving parents, Vanchon Birdsbill and Kevin Leo Azure. CJ returned to paradise on July 31, 2023. He is the third of six children. At a very young age CJ developed a caring and strong-willed personality which would define him in life. He was extremely athletic and as a young boy joined AAU wrestling in which he excelled. During this period of time he accrued many medals as he traveled to tournaments across the state of Montana. He continued this love for the sport of wrestling while attending Wolf Point Junior/Senior High School. He continued to shine during this particular period of time placing in tournament after tournament. His success brought immense pride to his parents and siblings. Unfortunately, due to the actions of a faculty member he wasn’t given the chance to take his rightful place in the state wrestling tournament. This was a devastating blow to CJ and he decided not to continue his traditional schooling.

He soon after began working in construction, following in the footsteps of his father Kevin, he began a life-long labor of love. During his late teens and early twenties CJ traveled to Phoenix, Arizona as well as Washington state for work before finally settling in Wolf Point, Montana. As he grew so did his abilities in the fields of construction and cement work. He worked with his father, building everything from homes, large warehouses, all the way down to planter boxes with his sister. CJ was always there for his mother, with whom he shared a very special bond. All she needed to do was ask and he provided far more than was ever imagined. His eye for detail and his strong-willed personality would soon come to play in his finish work. There were so many incredibly beautiful works of interior art that were created by a man who while speaking could easily make a sailor blush. Behind a tough outer shell was a man who had a heart larger than life. He was always so proud of the accomplishments of his nieces and nephews in everything they did. His family truly was everything to him.

CJ was a baptized member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Though not active he held a sincere desire to learn about the mysteries of life, religion, and about his Heavenly Father. He lived by faith and thanks to him he instilled within his family the wonderful gift of an even stronger faith.

At the age of 23 CJ met Phoebe Jensen and with her CJ would spend the next 17 years. It was at the beginning of that relationship that he then took on the role of father to a young baby name Cale. He instantly loved him and immediately began to raise him as his own. He loved being a dad and reveled in the opportunity to teach and coach his son Cale in his beloved sport of wrestling

Along with his love of sports CJ was an avid hunter and fisherman. Both of these things he enjoyed doing with his family and friends. Many laughs, conversations and memories were had during these times. CJ particularly had an immense love of mans best friend. He wasn’t only a father to Cale, he was also a dog dad to Ralphie, Olie, Beauty (Big Girl) and his beloved Beast Boy. It was always a good laugh when his family would see him driving past with Beast Boy sitting tall in the passenger seat and his human occupant confined to the back seat.

CJ is survived by his mother Vanchon Birdsbill, father Kevin Leo Azure, brother Louis Azure, sisters Rhiannon Weeks (Walker), Vanchon Azure (Blake Martinez), brothers Dillon Azure, Cole Grandchamp, his long-time companion Phoebe Jensen and son Cale Jensen, nieces Navella, Harper, Leighton, nephew Wesley, grandson Samuel and his nephew and little shadow Gavin Martinez, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Eazar and Emily Azure and Charles and Loverty Birdsbill.
