Carmen Chad Hernandez III, age 33, of Poplar, Montana, left this world to be with the Lord and many relatives and friends who passed on before him, on August 8, 2008 at NMHS in Poplar, after a long illness.
Carmen was born on December 20, 1974 in Missoula, MT to Mavis Scott Hernandez and Carmen Anthony Hernandez Jr.
Chad, as he was known to his friends and family, attended schools in Missoula, MT, West Riverside, MT and Poplar. He graduated from Poplar High School in 1993, where he was active in football and band. After high school he enlisted in this U.S. Marine Corps and was a wildland firefighter.
Chad was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing and camping. His favorite pastimes were rodeoing, singing and dancing at powwows, playing his guitar and video games and working on cars. Chad also loved visiting with friends and family, especially his children and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him a lot, especially his cousin, Delvin Conrad-Chad Red Eagle.
Chad is survived by his wife, Sheila of Poplar, MT ; one daughter Dorene Hernandez of Poplar, two sons, James Scott and Allen Red Boy of Poplar, MT; his mother, Mavis Hernandez, adopted mother, Anne Lester of and adopted father, Craig Cain of Poplar, MT; an adopted grandmother, Ramona Kirn of Poplar, MT; four sisters, Robyn (Don) Hernandez, Margaret (Ralph) Hernandez, Michelle Aims Back and Elayne Scott all of Poplar, MT; one brother, Conrad(Vangie)Scott and one adopted brother Orlando Hale both of Poplar, MT; aunties, Verbena Savior (Royce) Jackson, Faryl (Carlos) Pedraza, Karen Smoker, Rhonda Kirn and Johnelle Menz all of Poplar, MT, Neva Loudermilk of Billings, Carmella Scott of Nebraska, Julia and Evelyn Hernandez of St. Ignatious, MT, Delores Martinez, Mary Heppler, Diane Stagger, Patty Wagner, Carol Wood and Agnes GunHammer all of Flathead, MT; uncles Royce Jackson and Jim Loudermilk of Billings, Alvin Savior, Mathew Scott, Sr., Jesse Kirn, Jr., and Tom and Russell Kirn, all of Poplar, MT both of Poplar, Ronald Hernandez of Dixon, MT, John Hernandez of California and James and Robert Little of St. Michaels, N.D., , Monica Schroeder, Val Manning, Tawnya Wetzel all of Bainville, MT; adopted parents, Orin and Dorothy Denny of Brockton, MT; in-laws that thought highly of him, grandma Thelma Thompson, Benny Nice and Dale and Robin Manning all of Bainville, MT; Monica Schroeder and Val Manning of Williston, ND and Tawnya Wetzel of South Dakota.
Chad was preceded in death by his father Carmen Hernandez, Jr., maternal grandparents, Artie Crazy Bull, Raymond Scott and Melvin Toby Scott, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Margaret and Carmen Hernandez, Sr.; grandfather, Jesse Kirn, Sr. and adopted grandmother Raquel Menz; uncles, Earlwin Sam Savior, Francis Macdonald, Sr., Michael and Karl Hernandez; aunties Shirley Hernandez, Marveen Savior Larson and Elizabeth Youpee; adopted dad, Oliver Archdale, grandpa Malcolm Dale Manning; adopted brother, Callen Cloke; niece Ashley Cantrell; and grandma Betty Nice.
Visitation with a Vigil Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT. Inurnment at Poplar City Cemetery will follow at a later date.
