Charles Gene Wakan, age 66, of Lewistown, MT formerly of Poplar, MT passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Livingston Health & Rehabilitation Center in Livingston.

Charles Gene Wakan was born March 18, 1945 in Poplar, MT the son of Jesse Wakan and Josephine Youngman. He was raised by his grandparents George and Bessie Wakan. He moved to Spokane, WA and lived there most of his life.

He is survived by his sisters, Georgia Red Eagle, JoAnne Browning both of Poplar, MT, and Ilona Jo Youpee Mathews of Australia; brothers, Pierre Dale Youpee and John Youpee of Poplar, Terry Youpee of Missoula, MT, Colma Youpee of California, Merle Youpee of Portland, OR; aunts, Lorraine Stormy, Rita Long Chase and Florence (Wospi) Eagleman; and his uncle Mike Youngman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Wakan and Josephine Youngman; grandparents, George and Bessie Wakan; brothers, Larry Gene Youpee, Dennis Ray Youpee; and his twin sister, Charlotte Lee Wakan.

A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Monday, December 19 at the Lindsay Memorial Presbyterian Church in Poplar. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 20 also at the Lindsay Memorial Presbyterian Church in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Box Elder cemetery in Poplar.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
