Charles H. Baker, 91, of Wolf Point passed away at the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point on Friday, August 26, 2011.
Charles was born to C.W. “Billy” and Enna Smith Baker on June 24, 1920, in rural McCone County. He attended school in Poplar and the Nickwall and Pleasant View in McCone County. He was drafted into the Army on February 5, 1945, and honorably discharged on August 6, 1946, having served during WWII in Okinawa, the Philippines, and Korea. He married Elsie M. Ferguson on September 25, 1943 and they farmed in the Sunnyside and Nickwall communities until retiring in September 1982. They moved to Wolf Point in 1959 so their children could attend high school.
Charles was a baptized and confirmed member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and had served in many offices over the years.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Judy Sprague of Wolf Point; brothers, Dwight (Mary) Baker of Columbia Falls, MT, and Gerald (Karen) Baker of Otis, Oregon; nieces and nephews; and godson, Tharin Schumacher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (2002); son, Dennis (1968); son-in-law, Jack Sprague (1997); parents; five sisters; and three brothers.
A visitation will be held 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, August 29 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 30 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolf Point with Pastor John Vallie. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point.
