Coretta Louise Yankton

Coretta Louise Necklace Good Soldier Yankton, age 81, of Poplar, MT passed away peacefully at home on the morning of April 14, 2011.

Coretta was born to John and Elsie (Kills Thunder) Necklace on January 10, 1930. She attended Brockton School until her junior year. She was married to Joseph Good Soldier and to this union, they had 6 children. They later divorced but still remained friends until the time of his death, May 2, 1983. She later married her companion of over 30 years, James Yankton Sr., in September 1996. James passed away March 13, 2006.

She worked for the Poplar Hospital for a number of years but later stayed home to care for her children and many grandchildren. She enjoyed going to powwows and being with family. She was a member of the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church in Ft. Kipp, MT.

She is survived by daughters, Lorene (Doug) Michel of Jamestown, ND and Charlotte Good Soldier of Poplar; sons, Melvin (Delphine) Good Soldier Sr. of Poplar; grandchildren she and James raised, Abraham and Jolene Chopper of Poplar, Wendy Chopper of Billings, MT, Joseph Dunn of Jamestown, ND, Louis Dunn of Fort Totten, ND, Kalijah Good Soldier and Charles Good Soldier Jr. both of Poplar, Clifford Good Soldier Jr. of Fort Totten, Hattie Good Soldier of Tokio , ND, Cory, Pierre Jr., and Cliff Youpee all of Poplar; adopted sons, Marvin Medicine Horse of Cannon Ball, ND, Clifford Jerome and Marvin Eagle, both of Poplar; adopted daughters, Lois Medicine Cloud of Ethete, WY and Flora Hapa of Grenville, Sask, Can.; neice, Ruth Necklace; nephews, William and Dean Necklace; step-sons, Roger, Quentin, Alex, and James Yankton Jr. all of Fort Totten, ND; stepdaughters, Celeste, Clarice, Valerie, Paulette Lenoir, and Andrea Iron Shield all of Fort Totten; and also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family from Fort Peck and Spirit Lake.

Coretta is preceded in death by husband, James; parents; 6 brothers; 5 sisters; sons, Joseph Jr., Clifford, and Charles Good Soldier; grandsons, John Good Soldier, Joseph Dale Good Soldier, and Thomas John Necklace; son-in-law, Sam Savior; and stepson, Scott Yankton. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at the Poplar Cultural Center. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 21 also at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Fort Kipp Cemetery.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
