Our beloved Courtney, ”Wicaphi Win” (Star Woman), passed away at her home on October 15, 2017 at the age of 23.
Courtney was born to Jeanine Renz and Robert (Bobby) Black Dog on August 8, 1994 in Sidney, MT. She went to elementary school in Poplar, and middle and high school in Brockton. She lived in Ft. Kipp with her grandparents, Martha and Lawrence Black Dog and her father during this time. Later, when she became an adult, she moved to Poplar to live with her mother.
Courtney was a very kind and loving person. She loved her family. She was a single mother with two children (Rylan and Aidyn) whom she loved dearly. She was a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed visiting with her cousins and listening to her favorite songs. She went through some hardships during her young life, but she accepted it and pulled through most of it.
Courtney leaves behind her two children, Aidyn and Rylan Black Dog; her mother Jeanine Renz (Dennis Scott); her father Bobby Black Dog; three brothers, Eric (Donelle), Evan, and Sean Black Dog; one sister, Mary Black Dog (Mahto) all of Poplar; grandparents Barbara and Victor Perry; grandmothers Roberta Garfield, Nancy (Albert) Foote of Poplar, Roberta Bird of Brockton, Connie Bird of Poplar; aunties, Robyn (Pat) Baker of McLaughlin, SD, Lavonne Black Dog, LaDonna Black Dog of Ft. Kipp, Teresa Walker of Billings, Desiree Scheaffer of Billings, and Angie Bahlmann of Great Falls; uncles, Danny (Glenna) Renz, Harold (Colleen) Renz of Poplar, Willy (Mary) Black Dog of Poplar and Robert Scheaffer of Ft. Belknap; godparents, Lavonne Black Dog and Jeff Hagadon; special nephews, Geoffrey and Adam Blackdog, and Kingston Eder of Poplar; special nieces, Winter Blackdog of Brockton and Martha Blackdog of Poplar; and numerous other nephews, nieces, and relatives.
Preceding Courtney in death are her grandparents Martha and Lawrence Black Dog; grandpa Harold Renz Sr.; nephew Cameron Black Dog; Brother Adam Black Dog; Cousin Christopher Black Dog; great-grandparents Angela and Moses Shawl, James and Mary Black Dog, and Alvis Bird; and great-grandma, Lucille Gibbs Samuelson; grandma, Donna Shawl Cantrell; and grandpa, Thomas Shawl. Extended families include Perrys, White Eagles, Black Dogs, Briens, Jacksons, Shawls of Wolf Point and Ft. Belknap, Deserlys, Kirns, Walking Eagles, Long Hairs, Gibbs, and Weeks.
We apologize if we forgot to mention other relatives. Our family is large and we did not do this intentionally.
Rest in peace our beloved Courtney, we will miss you greatly and we will never forget you. You will always be in our hearts, especially your children’s.
