Darrel Lee Roy

July 5, 1934 — May 1, 2012

Darrel L. Roy, a long time Wolf Point resident, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at his home.

The third of eight children, Darrel was born July 5, 1934 in Ava, Missouri to Lawrence and Lizetta Roy. He moved north with the oil business in 1951 and helped drill the first discovery well north of Poplar.

Darrel enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1953 and served at Camp Pendleton, CA and Camp Gifu, Japan at the end of the Korean War.

On May 1, 1955 he married Katherine Berreth of Vida, MT. They made their home near the Missouri River east of Wolf Point. They raised four children, Steven (Diana) Roy of Williston, ND, Debra (Michael) Wermuth of Colorado Springs, Co, James (Marbel) Roy of Kapolei, HI and Patricia Presser of Wolf Point, MT.

Darrel loved his farm; nothing pleased him more than watching his wheat grow. He also took great pleasure in his registered Black Angus cattle. He enjoyed hunting deer and birds with friends in the local area and looked forward to his many big game hunting trips to western Montana. As an avid storyteller, he always enjoyed the times he shared with good friends at the Round Table in Wolf Point.

Darrel is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Katherine; brothers, James E., Harold, Jerry and Mike Roy; sisters Beulah Peterson, Vivian Gerke, and Sue Ady; his four children; eleven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Jesse Roy.

As a lifetime member of the Gideon’s International, Darrel expressed a deep faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior.
