David Cantrell, Wamni Kne Knexa (Spotted Eagle), age 58, of Wolf Point, MT passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.
David Albert Cantrell, Wamni Kne Knexa (Spotted Eagle), was born on January 23, 1956 in Poplar, MT to Otto Cantrell and Nida Kennedy Cantrell. David, Wamni Kne Knexa (Spotted Eagle), attended schools at Wolf Point, MT, Pierre, SD, and Ogden, UT. He enlisted in the US Marines from 1969 to 1972, when he was Honorably Discharged.
David, Wamni Kne Knexa (Spotted Eagle), enjoyed hunting, camping, and loved working. He danced at all the powwows with his grandchildren, Johnny Ray, Fred III, A’mya, and CaBell. He was always asked by the powwow committees to be the announcer at Wadopana and area director at the Turns Around Powwow, he looked forward to this all summer.
David A. Cantrell, Wamni Kne Knexa (Spotted Eagle), is survived by his longtime companion, Terri Adams of Wolf Point and granddaughter they raised together, A’mya Adams; four daughters, Autumn and Amber’Dawn of Colorado Springs, CO, Cheyenne of Alburquerque, NM, and Crystalyn of Espanola, NM; son, Loren Bacon of Rocky Boy, MT; sisters and brothers, Vivian (Jerry), Emma (Bob) Groat, Mary W.C., Hazel, Ida Youngman, Arnie Good Bird, Annie, April, Kay, Otto Jr., Lenard (Sharon) Cantrell, Virgil and Art Cantrell; and many grandchildren near and dear too much to mention.
He is preceded in death by his dad, Otto Cantrell Sr.; his mom, Nida Kennedy Cantrell; son, David Cantrell, Jr.; brothers, Wayne “Jiggs” Cantrell, Llewellyn “Rusty” Cantrell, Milty Cantrell, Franky Birdsbill, Courtney Cantrell, Merle Lucas, Tommy Cantrell, and Richard Cantrell; also, sister, Emily Cantrell and Rose Cantrell; and several others too numerous to mention.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at the Silver Wolf Casino in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the Chicken Hill Cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
