Donald Dale Walking Eagle, Sr, age 86 of Poplar, MT passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2008. Donald was born October 16, 1921 in Poplar, the son of the late Lucian and Adele (Malataire) Walking Eagle. Donald attended schools in Brockton and Chemawa Boarding School in Oregon.
Donald enlisted into the United States Army in November, 1942. He was honorably discharge November, 1945.
In 1952 Donald married Ida Ricker. With this marriage they had seven children. Donald enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Lucian and Adele Walking Eagle; his wife, Ida (Ricker) Walking Eagle; daughter, Irene Walking Eagle; step-daughter, Kathleen Ricker; two great-granddaughters, Jenna D’laine Spotted Bird and Vanessa Jade Two Bulls; four brothers, Victor and Carson Walking Eagle and Albert and Amos Kennedy; eleven sisters, Ida Walking Eagle, Ester Spotted Bull, Lotin and Irene Walking Eagle, Agnes Kennedy Burshia, Merciline Dratz, Nancy, Leena, Olive, Belva and Laura Kennedy.
Donald is survived by: three sons, Donald Jr., George (Beverly) Walking Eagle both of Poplar, and Alfred Walking Eagle of Arizona; three daughters, Patsy (Bud) Two Bulls of Poplar, Junia (Wayne) Jones of Wolf Point, and Debbie Walking Eagle of Sioux City, Iowa. He was blessed with 34 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Prayer Service will be Friday, May 9, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Poplar Cultural Center. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery.
