Dorothy A. Simensen

November 1, 1943 — April 23, 2013

Dorothy Simensen was born on November 1, 1943 to Mary and Vernon Papka in Brookings, South Dakota.

She grew up in Minnesota and Billings, Montana with nine siblings, helping her mother to care for them. She graduated from BillingsCentralHigh School in 1961.

In 1963 she married Maurice Roll and together they had three children, Karen, Mary Kay and Sheila.

Dorothy was a homemaker until her children were of school age. She then became an Avon Representative where she made many friends.  She also worked as a food server/cook in the WolfPoint school system and was a big fan of the Wolves athletic teams over the years.

Dorothy enjoyed many activities such as bowling, ceramics, playing softball, horseback riding and throwing darts.  She also was an excellent seamstress.  She sewed many clothes for her daughters when they were young and even made prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, cheerleading outfits, and western shirts.

She was very involved in the Catholic Church, attending regularly.  She was a Lector and Greeter, and was very proud of her faith.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved playing cards and other  games.  She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a very proud grandma, showing pictures of them to everyone.  She loved showing them her horses, cows and dogs.

In 1990, she married Don Simensen and began a new chapter in her life as a farmer and rancher.  She enjoyed raising cows and was always happy in the Spring when the calves would be born.  She enjoyed the many activities involved in the cattle industry such as moving cows and branding.  She and Don enjoyed going on wagon trains, hunting and attending rodeos.  They also shared a passion for watching football.  Her favorite team was the Minnesota Vikings.

She was a very close friend of some of the members of the Prairie Elk Colony.  She enjoyed spending time with them. A special thank you to Ruth Walter, for being so helpful to our Mom.

She is survived by her husband, Don Simensen, her daughters, Karen (Dennis) Dahl, of Great Falls, Mary Kay (Eric) Hoch, of Williston, and Sheila (Wayne) Doornek of Livingston;  and grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Josh, Lindsay, Alyssa, Savanna, Noelani, Dustin and Jordan; her great grandchildren, Emarie and Tucker, Harper and Nolan; and Avah and Taedyn., and her siblings; Gary (Kathy), Keith (Doris), Rita (Tom), Dave (Carol), Will (Lynnette), Kenny (Debbie), Donna (Mike), Darlene (Ron).
