Dustin Smith

January 10, 1985 — January 13, 2021

Dustin, “Baby”, “Brother”, William Smith Sr. left us way too soon on January 13, 2021 to join his Mom, Dad, and Brother in the Great Beyond

Dustin was born January 10, 1985 to Eddy O. Smith Sr. and Connie Crowe-Smith in Williston North Dakota.

He grew up and attended school in Poplar, graduating from Poplar High School in May 2003. During his high school years he played basketball which he greatly enjoyed, getting pointers from his personal coach, his bro Ed. Playing basketball is where he acquired the nickname “Baby”.  Although he didn’t run cross country, you could always find him at home running many miles on the dirt roads.

In his boyhood years he was quite the daredevil. One time he climbed onto the top of the trailer house and dove into a snow bank at the daring of his brothers.  He and his brother grew up with many toys requiring 9 volt batteries, when his bro Ed wanted to check to see if the batteries were still good, he would have Dustin stick his tongue out to test them and if he shuddered, they went into the “good” pile!

One time he and his brothers Ed, James and Darren walked to Grandma Bessie’s and on the way he dove into giant mud puddles at the coaxing of Edzo, rolling around and getting drenched.

Another time he and his bro James came into the house all excited with the “treasure” they found. To the horror of the moms, they each had a handful of baby hairless mice which they had to promptly go and dispose of.

He attended FPCC, where he received certificates in building trades then eventually began work with the Fort Peck Housing Authority where he earned many certificates in various areas of training which he was very proud of as was his father

Dustin married Amber Black Dog on July 7 2012 and from this union Dustin, Jr. was born on February 26, 2010 followed by Dillinger who was born on December 20, 2012. They later divorced but remained friends.

He later met Butterfly DeMarrias and together had their daughter DeShaunti Louise on November 2nd, 2018.

He enjoyed doing various activities and fishing with all his children, he loved them dearly.

He made a lot of friends in his short life and never had a bad word for anyone. Always laid back and willing to visit, he was a mean barbecue cook, cooking outside on the wood grill even when it was raining! If his brother Eddy wanted grilled food, Dustin would be out there firing up the grill, even in the winter.

Tragic events that led to his losing full use of his hands lead to his depression but he alway greeted family and friends with a hug and hi when they showed up.

Losing his family was the catalyst that pushed him further into depression but, we take great comfort in knowing that they are all  reunited, whole, healthy, and happy! Doksha “Brother”, “Baby”, we will all  see you again.

Go rest high on that mountain my boy. Fly high and be at peace now. We love you wholeheartedly and miss you more.

He is survived by his sons,  Dustin Jr. and Dillinger and their mother Amber, his daughter Deshaunti and her mother Butterfly, grandmother Louise Smith, sister Carrie (Travis, Sr.) Pribbernow and family, Aunts Dolly Crowe, Delores Crowe, Edna (Larry) Wetsit of Wolf Point, uncles Paul (Corrina) Smith of Wolf Point, Mike (Lovena) Smith of Wahpeton North Dakota and many many cousins, aunties, uncles and grandparents on both the Crowe and Smith side too numerous to mention by name as we are a large family

Thank you to everyone who called, visited, expressed condolences, and helped us in our time of grief. Thank you all for your acts of kindness, it is all greatly appreciated
