Edward Orval Smith Jr. was born on December 15, 1980 in Williston, North Dakota to Eddy O. Sr. and Connie Smith.
He left us way too soon on September 21, 2020.
Eddy attended school in Poplar and graduated in May, 2000.
He was an avid basketball fan. Sadly, his Osteogenesis Imperfecta prevented him from playing so he settled for watching his beloved Boston Celtics alongside his Grandma Bette. They were rabid Larry Bird fans. He also called his Grandma Louise to tell her when they played as she enjoyed watching them also. He and his dad were loyal Patriots fans and they would enjoy the games together. When he was in Jr. High and in a wheelchair, he entered a half-court shot contest during a high school basketball game and made the shot! The whole gym stood up and cheered him.
One year he met Moose Lambert and they were in a wheelchair basketball game together. They were good friends after that and Moose would share memorabilia, gifting Eddy with a Larry Bird plaque.
When he was younger and still able to walk, he, his dad, mom, grandma Bette and brother Dust would always be at the river enjoying some fishing and family time. He so enjoyed the times when Elmer would come down and do his fish frys.
Edzo was a kind and gentle soul. You never saw him get mad or say a bad word about anyone. This is a testament to his many friends that always stopped in to visit and watch a Celtics game with him.
He is preceded in death by his dad Eddy O. Sr.; Paternal Grandpa Buck Smith; paternal great-grandma Sarah Three Stars; maternal great-grandma Ruby Red Boy, who he named Kidi Grandma and all grandkids called her after that; maternal grandparents Nelson Crowe and Bette Iron Ring; grandpas Archie Red Boy Jr. and Dennis Red Boy; and uncle John Reddoor Lodmell who Eddy named Johnzo.
Eddy is survived by his mom Connie Smith; brother Dustin (Butterfly) Sr. and his children; sister Carrie (Travis Sr.) Pribbernou and family; grandma Louise Smith; aunties Edna (Larry) Wetsit and family; Delores Crowe and family; Dolly Crowe and family; uncles Mike (Lovena) Smith of Wahpeton, North Dakota and family, and Paul (Corrina) Smith and family. Eddy had many cousins who he considered brothers and sisters.
We have a very large extended family and I am sorry if I have omitted anyone. Our family consisted of Red Boys, Little Heads, Bighorns, Youpees, Black Dogs, Two Bulls, Youngs, Smiths, Graingers, and Rakstads.
See you later Edzo, you were loved beyond measure!
