Eliza “Babe” Lu Young was born November 29, 1950. On October 21, 2021, while surrounded by her children, she was called home to be with the Lord. She was born in Poplar, MT to Elmer and Elizabeth (Lester) DeCoteau. Eliza grew up in Poplar and graduated from Poplar High School in 1969.
On August 25, 1972, she married her soulmate Richard Young. They were married for 48 years until Richard’s passing on September 28, 2020. From their marriage they had four children.
She worked for the Fort Peck Tribes for 40 years doing various jobs. Of those 40 years Eliza worked as a payroll clerk for 29 years. After working for the Tribes, Eliza worked as a payroll clerk and administrative assistant for Fort Peck Solutions.
She enjoyed shopping and could always find a rummage sale. Eliza enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Eliza could always be counted on to attend her grandchildren’s sporting and other events. When she was younger, she loved to dance.
Eliza was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Elizabeth (Lester) DeCoteau; husband Richard; brothers Dale, Emerson and Lonnie DeCoteau; sisters Francine and Janine DeCoteau.
She is survived by her children Richard “RJ” (Chandra) Young, Emerson (Norma) Young, Lester (Christie) Young, and Elise Young; her sisters Birdie Hawk, Chrystal DeCoteau, Naomi Young, Juanita (Doug) Youngman; her brothers Elmer (Kristy) DeCoteau, Charles “Snooky” DeCoteau, and Jimmy (Nadine) DeCoteau; her grandchildren Lyndsey Young, Logan Young, Landon Young, Lukas Young, Quintana Young, Eliana Young, Eden Bauer, Tenley Bauer, Tatum Bauer, Greysen Young, Harper Young, and Emerly Young; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her extended family the Lester’s, DeCoteau’s, the Youpee’s, the Azure’s, the Three Star’s, the Porras’s, and the Young’s. Sorry if we missed anyone.
A wake will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Poplar Cultural Center. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Riverside Presbyterian Cemetery.
