Eliza “Joey” BigLeggins Red Elk, daughter of Sylvester BigLeggins and Donna Chase, born July 28, 1957, passed away with her sons by her side on November 4, 2021. Eliza was raised in Chelsea, Montana. She then raised four sons, Doug Runs Through, Elijah Runs Through, Richard White Owl, and Kory Hines. She attended school in Poplar, Montana and later moved to Glasgow with her mother and step-father, Curly Chase. Eliza grew up with two sisters, Roberta “Bobby” Heghdal and Devta Taylor, and brother, John Johnson.
Eliza worked for A&S Industries in Poplar, Montana. She also worked for FPCC college program for young mothers obtaining their GEDs. Her duties were overseeing the daycare, which she loved.
Eliza worked hard and enjoyed visiting her many relatives and friends who stopped by her house. Her house was open to anyone. Holidays were very important to her. She always made sure to have plenty to eat and would snap many pictures.
Family was very important to Eliza. Her deep love and respect for her strong family who came before her was passed down to her children and grandchildren. BigLeggins and Bearcubs from her father’s side and Bad Temper Bears from her mother’s side.
Eliza is preceded in death by her parents, Donna Chase and Sylvester BigLeggins; her sister, Davetta Taylor; and son Elijah RunsThrough; and husband, Loren Red Elk.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery.
