Elizabeth (Bette) Ruby Red Boy Iron Ring was born on March 12, 1939 at the family home in Riverside to Archie and Ruby Cloud Red Boy.
Bette as she was known attended schools in Brockton up to grade 11. She then started her family with Nelson Crowe whom she married in May 1958. Connie Jean, Delores Dean, and Dolly Diane were born in the following years. They divorced but she remained friends with Nelson and Faye.
Bette enjoyed making the best yeast buns this side of the Rockies, her grandson James could eat up a dozen himself. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch or her veranda as she liked to call it. She also liked to visit in Riverside to watch the Boston Celtics play basketball with her grandson Eddy, Jr. She and he were avid Larry Bird fans. She was an avid reader; she’d stay in the late hours reading and eating her Werthers. Her room was filled with boxes of books she had read. As all her pictures show, she’d really enjoy it when people would stop in to visit and have a refreshing beverage. She also enjoyed telling old stories to her grandsons even if she had told them once they would ask her to tell them again. The especially loved the story she told of when she was only four years old. She had a horse named “Brownie” who she would push up against the fence, climb up and ride horseback. She was the apple of her daddy’s eye as she was the only girl.
