Elmer Yellow Hawk Jr.

November 18, 1951 — October 24, 2011

Elmer Yellow Hawk Jr., age 59, of Poplar, MT went to be with the creator on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the MT Mental Health Nursing Care Center in Lewistown, MT.

Elmer was born on November 18, 1951 in Poplar, MT to Elmer and Alta Ruth (Thundering Bear) Yellow Hawk.

Elmer worked as a laborer and was a great artist. He had a good sense of humor, loving to tell jokes and tease. He like playing a good game of cribbage, which he was pretty good at; whenever he and his brothers weren’t cheating each other! He also enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, and had done lots of puzzles. Back in the day, he loved to just sit with his special grandson T-bear, listening to him read. He often could be found at the river fishing and eating sunflower seeds or drawing T-bear a quick picture. He was always encouraging T-bear to stay in school and do his best. For all these blessing that we were fortunate to share with “Jolly” we are grateful! He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alta Ruth; grandparents, John Yellow Hawk, Adele Iron Leggins, Mary Black Tounge, John Thundering Bear; and sister, Adele.

Elmer is survived by his brothers, Gordon Dene, Lorne (Cissy) of Poplar and Terry (Pearl) of Wolf Point; relatives, Frank and Geraldine Jamerson, Delbert and Darlene Chasing Hawk, Eddison Uses Arrow, Madeline Turning Heart, Trivian Hairy Chin, Imogene and Delores Taken Alive, Arlene Benson, Mazie Cross Bear, Vivian Lindahl, Pearl Nation, and Faye McGrath; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids, all who Jolly loved dearly.

Many family members that had left before him were surely happy to see him again.

A vigil will be held 7 p.m. Friday, October 28 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 29 also at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Poplar.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
