Elouise (Elly) Florence Burshia, “Humble Lakota Woman”, age 62, passed away on December 29, 2021 in Poplar, Montana. Elly was born on November 10, 1959 in Poplar, Montana to Mary Recette and Aloysius James Burshia, Jr.
Elly attended schools in Culbertson, Glasgow, Poplar, and Brockton. She also went to college in Billings, Montana to become an accountant. Elly enjoyed making patch quilts and she loved her cats and her favorite dog. She worked at the Brockton Senior Site and Brockton school in the cafeteria until her health forced her to quit. She was married to Donald Weinberger by Pastor David Boyd.
Elly is survived by her son, Joshua James Burshia; granddaughters, Kenicea Burshia, Angela Antoinette Carrillo and 11 grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn (Buddy) Adams, Roxann (Robert) Smith, Brenda (George) Eder, and Joanne Clark (of Worrenton, Oregon); uncle and aunt, Julie Bemer and Merle SunRhodes; cousins, Neil, Ryon, and Lisa SunRhodes, and Wanda Thumm; uncles Tommy Christian and Cal Christian; uncle and aunt, Larry and Nancy Burshia; cousins, Michael Burshia, of Poplar, Rodney Burshia, of Brockton, and Ann Burshia, of Billings; niece, Hilena Hill; nephews, Jonathan (Eleese) Hill, Keatyn and Creed, and Caleb, of Colstrip, Sean Bighorn, and Joseph Hill (of South Hardin).
Elly is preceded in death by her father, Aloysius James Burshia, Jr.; grandparents, Aloysius James Burshia, Sr. and Freda (Neville) Bemer, Moses Recette, Kate Leithbridge-Recette; uncles, Ronald Burshia, Delos Burshia, and Howard Bemer; aunt Lorraine Thumm; cousin, Louie Burshia; and nephew, Quinn Bighorn.
Relatives include the Burshia family, Bauer family, Recette family, Leithbridge family, Goodwill family, Christian family, Johnson family, Kirn family, Lizotte family, LeVay family, LeMay family, Thumm family, Bemer family, Hill family, Bear family, and the Ferguson family. Elly had many relatives, we apologize if we missed anyone.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2022 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Brockton, Montana.
