Emma Silvan Siljenberg

Emma Silvan Siljenberg, age 101, of Wolf Point, Montana passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.

She was born Emma Silvan Fenske in Edmonton, Canada on January 12, 1907. At a very young age she moved with her parents to Roundup, Montana, then to Dinuba, California, and back to Montana to homestead their own land. Her mother died of an illness when Emma was 13. Three years later her father died in a fire leaving Emma and her only sister, Florence, on there own. These sisters continued to flourish on their own. Emma finished high school and attended college receiving her teaching certificate. She taught in many country schools in the Poplar area including the Pershing Community.

Emma met Lewis Milton Siljenberg during the early years of teaching. They were married in 1927 in Wolf Point. They farmed and ranched in the Benrude Community where she was also the U.S. Postal Mistress.

In 1964 Milton built his dear Emma a new home which she received great enjoyment from. Emma loved to garden and tend her beautiful flowers. Her greatest love was her family.

Emma was an active member of First Lutheran Church and involved in the women’s circles.

Emma is survived by her son, Larry (Beulah) Siljenberg of Wolf Point, a grandson, Kelly Siljenberg of Wolf Point, five great grandchildren, Dayle Garfield, KelliJo Siljenberg, Violet Siljenberg, Dusty Rose Siljenberg and Lewis Milton Mitchell, 2 great-great granddaughters, sister-in-law, Dolores Porter, special granddaughter, Loren Siljenberg, special nephews, Bertle Pearson, Dennis Cole and Darrel Cole, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton in 1984, sister, Florence Polich in 1997, and sisters-in-law, Juliet Welch and Vivian Anderson.

Emma’s funeral will be Saturday, September 13, 2008 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point with Rev. Greg Hollar-Dinsmore officiating. Graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
