Emmett Alfred Buckles, Sr., age 74, of Wolf Point, MT passed away Friday, June 27, 2008 at his residence in Wolf Point.
Emmett was born August 16, 1933 in Poplar, MT to Fred Buckles and Emma Redd. He lived in Wiota, MT and attended schools in Brockton and Wolf Point.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He went to school later in California and learned welding in the 1960’s. In the ‘70’s he attended Dawson Community College and received a degree in Human Services.
Emmett enjoyed PowWows, hunting, fishing, visiting with friends and traveling. He loved his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren and family events and gatherings. He was involved in the Sissiton Whapeton Sioux Council. He worked with the Tribal Court System in Wolf Point and Poplar for over thirty years—he loved helping others.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Buckles and Emma Redd; sister, Eloise Buckles; brother, Marvin Squires; a nephew, Emerson Melbourne; an infant baby daughter; two infant sons, Reese and Russell; a granddaughter, Aaliyah Buckles; and great-granddaughter, Shyleigh Rae Christian.
Emmett is survived by his children: Emmett Buckles, Jr. of Wolf Point; Pearl Buckles (Larry Headdress) of Wolf Point; Emma (Manford) Ebarb of South Dakota; Jodi Buckles (Frank Clampitt), both of Wolf Point; Matthew Buckles of Anaconda, MT; 15 grandchildren: Teddy, Theda, Emmett Buckles III, Alex, Rose, Karri, Lexus, Stevie, Amber, Cameo, Manford Jr., William, Randy, Frankie and Prestyn; 6 great-grandchildren: Shiloh, Kayawna, Devin and Emily, Kelan and Kya; brother, Denzel Squires of Wolf Point; adopted brother, Dave Rossi of Glendive, MT; Nurna Azure and Margie Squires, both of Wolf Point, Vonda (Larry) Brewster, of Billings, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1, 2008 from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point with a Family Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point with President Pilgram officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Chicken Hill Cemetery, Wolf Point.
