Eugene Mitchell Culbertson

September 28, 1939 — June 24, 2010

Eugene Mitchell Culbertson, 71 of Poplar went to be with our Savior and Lord Jesus on June 24, 2010 at the Poplar Community Hospital from cancer, which he fought courageously for the last 21 years.

Gene was born on September 28, 1939 in Loupee Arizona to Marjorie Weeks and Samuel Culbertson Jr. He grew up In Poplar and graduated from Poplar High School. Eugene Served in the US Navy he was Honorably Discharged after so many years of service.

After returning home from the service he met the love of his life. His wife Nola Walking Eagle whom he was married to for 50 years. Raising their children in Poplar.

He was a generous, loving man, a caring husband and father who devoted his life to his family.

He found his true calling when he was elected to the Fort Peck Tribal Council in 1981. He loved serving the people of Fort Peck reservation as a councilman for the past 28 years up until his passing.

He had a passion for golfing, fishing and hunting which he loved doing with his grandsons, He always had time to stop and visit with everyone, always teasing and making someone smile. He also love to go to garage sales always picking something up and taking it home and giving to someone that was in need.

Gene was survived by his wife Nola Culbertson, his daughters Evelyn (Peter) Arosemena, Carla (Kenny) Damon, Cheryl (Ray) Nygaard, Tracy (Blaine) Keefer.

Grandchildren: Munchy, James, Michael, Ben, Mitchell, Yvette (Mikkel) Shields, Mychal, Mary, Clay, Tyler, Lainey, Bree, Trenton, Heather & Donnie. Great Grandchildren, Sahanos, Kenidi, Carmen, Tristan, Quentin, Shayanne, Lariah, Clifford, Elise.

He is also survived by Sisters, Terry (Rick) Wallace of Portland OR. Sammy (Bruce) Scott, Carol and Sharon of CA. Nancy (Larry) Burshia, Doreen Redeagle of Poplar, Eleanor Goodbird of New Town ND. Brothers: Gary (Maxine) Culbertson, Keith, Joe and Steve of Portland OR. George Culbertson of CA & Carson Walking Eagle of Billings Mt.

Extended Family, Ben RunningBear, Maureen Grayhawk, Marie, JR. & Mavis Draszt, whom all thought of him as Dad. Debbie and Jerry Johnson. All of Poplar.
Eugene was preceeded in death by his Mother Marjorie, Father Samuel. Daughters, Genette and Katherine. One, Sister Robin Jeglinski.

Once again Dad never goodbye only see you again. Love, your family.

A Vigil Service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 also at Our Lady of Lourdes Church with Father Francis Schreiber as Celebrant. Interment will military honors will follow at Poplar City Cemetery.
