John Sylvester “Eggie” Big Leggins, age 81, of Poplar, MT formerly of Frazer, MT went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2009 in Billings, MT.
John Sylvester was born on October 24, 1928 to Dan Big Leggins and Laura Bearcub in Frazer, MT.
John attended school in Frazer.
John enjoyed listening to Indian music, smoking cigarettes and visiting friends and family. John was a very loving and caring man to all he knew.
John was a Sundancer and a Pipe Carrier. He was also a Men’s Traditional Dancer in his younger years. He enjoyed going to Pow-Wows and spending time with family and friends.
John married Donna Johnson in 1947 in Poplar, MT. John worked on his father-in-law’s, David B. Johnson, ranch/farm in Chelsea, MT for numerous years and worked on the railroad for numerous years.
John was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Big Leggins, mother, Laura Bearcub, daughter, Davetta Big Leggins Taylor, sisters, Margie Big Leggins and Juanita Big Leggins, brothers, Donald Big Leggins, Sherwin Big Leggins and Leroy Big Leggins.
John Sylvester is survived by his son, John David Johnson of Poplar; daughters, Eliza Red Elk of Wolf Point and Bobby Jo (Jerry) Hegdahl of Gallup, NM; one brother, Garrette Big Leggins of Frazer; grandchildren, Cheyanne J. Serna of Wapato, WA, Doug (Myrna) Runsthrough of Brockton, MT, Elijah Runsthrough of Great Falls, MT, Richard White Owl III of Gallup, Kory Hines of Brockton, Thomas E.W. Brown and Marcus (Ginger) Eggebrecht both of Gallup, Michelle (Ron) Olguin, Raquel Taylor, Heidi Taylor and Buddy Ray Taylor, all of Ignacio, CO; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and Spotted Bird and Bearcub families.
A Wake will begin 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Wolf Point Community Hall. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Wolf Point Community Hall. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery.
