Fred Steele, 57, of St. Ignatius, Montana formerly of Poplar was born October 29, 1959 in Poplar, MT. He passed away peacefully on July 15th, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA with his loving family by his side. Fred graduate Poplar High School in 1978. His senior year he was homecoming king. He was an all-star athlete playing baseball, football, rode saddle bronc and bulls. After high school he went on to Haskell Junior College in Lawrence, KS where he earned his degree in Business and met the mother of his children Linda Benally.
Fred was a Sanitarian working in Tribal Health for the Confederated Salish and Kootani Tribes were he had worked for 25 years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, football, basketball, golf, and the cooking channel. He was avid fishermen and hunter. Fred will be remembered for his one of a kind sense of humor, his kind heartedness, his words of wisdom, and the love he shared towards family, friends and co-workers.
Fred is survived by his life partner Debbie, children Bronson Steele, Freda (William) Steele, Aunt Thelma Blount and step children Jara (Casey) McMann and Erik (Skye) Anderson, and his 6 grandchildren, Bailey, Colton, Zane , Paisley, Wyatt and Emma he is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Steele, Carol(Ron) Vilhauer, Tom Steele and the numerous members of the Steele, Ownspipe, Scott, Foote, Weinberger, and Black Duck families. He was preceded in death by his father Fred Steele, Sr., mother Blanche Lindley and brother Dorrance Steele, Sr., Aunts Theresa (Steele) Smoker, Marlene Steele, Carlene Steele, Trivian Steele, Mary Rose Melbourne, Uncles Dorrance (Curly) Steele and Lonnie Steele.
A will be held starting at 1 p.m. Monday, July 17 at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius, MT. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19 at the Cultural Center in Poplar, MT. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point and Foster Funeral Home of St. Ignatius have been entrusted with the arrangements.
