Gabriel Moses “Mickey” Young Jr. age 79 joined his wife of 41 year, Thelma Jean, August 31st, 2014 in Poplar, MT. Mickey was born on March 28th, 1935 to Gabe Young Sr. and Effie Cloud in Ft. Totten, ND. He attended school in Brockton, MT. and worked on various farms and ranches in the area. Mickey was a comical guy who liked to joke around with everyone. He also had a nickname for every person that he met. He enjoyed raising and spending time with his grandchildren, Stacey Star Simons being his pride and joy. Mickey would sit outside his house drinking coffee and visiting with anyone who would stop by including his nephew William Young. He also enjoyed cruising listening to Indian music, going to pow-wows, playing scratch cards, and watching his game shows.
Mickey is survived by his children: Lahoma (Loren) Young Boadle, Susie Jones, Jennifer Porras, Valerie Longtree, Vicki Dean Stark. Grandkids: Karen (Alvino) Simons, Ashley (Ramone) Simons, Destinee Young; Laney, Labrea, Logan, and Liberty Boadle; Shanowa, Dustin, and Marris Kohl; Jordan Jones and adopted grandson Chris Gray Hawk. Great-Grandkids: Aberial, Alvino Jr. and Amelia Spotted Elk; Stacey Simons; Bentley WhiteBear; Dalton DeMarrias; Elias and Praylene BlackElk; and Kai’Ona Guardipee. Sister: Velma Nepstad & kids, Naomi Montclair & kids, Juanita(Doug)Youngman & kids, Sharon Sandavol & family, Frances Silk & family, Debi Unno & family, and Bette Manning & family of Ft.Yates, ND. Brothers: Eugene Pepper Young & family of Ft.Yates,ND.; and Richard(Eliza)Young &kids. Adopted siblings; Leland and Catherine Spotted Bird of Brockton, MT. Special niece Kim Cavnaugh & family of Ft.Totten, ND. Cousins: Vern Lambert and Gerald Wanna of Ft.Totten, ND.; Georgeline BlackHawk and Delta Nelson of St.Paul, MN.; Dolly Boyd & family of Poplar, MT. He is also survived by the BlackDog, Youpee, RedBoy, Cloud, Little Head, Menz, Olsen and Young families. We apologize if we have forgotten anyone.
He is preceded in death by his children Michael and Jeanette, wife: Thelma Jones, parents: Gabe Young & Effie Cloud-Two Bulls, sisters: Irma Longee, Jeanette LaVallie; and brothers, Wixie Young and Billie Young.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Monday, September 8 at the Activity Center in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 9 at the Activity Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
