Garrett Joseph BigLeggins, Sr., age 80, of Frazer, MT passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home in Frazer.
Garrett, the son of Laura Bearcub and Daniel BigLeggins, was born on March 27, 1933 in Frazer. He played basketball in high school. He had made it into the Montana history books by being an outstanding player and making 28 points in 14 field goals in the first 5 minutes of a District tournament game in Glasgow in 1952. After high school he went on into the Army and was discharged due to medical (heart) problems. On July 25, 1957 he married Edith Alberta Welch and to this union, 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls) were born.
He was a part of the relocation program and lived in Los Angeles, CA for 12 years. He got his maters mechanic degree and worked in textiles. He moved back to take care of his mother, who was ill. Garrett worked as a 911 dispatcher for 25 years until his retiring. Garrett then raised his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Garrett enjoyed playing pool and was on a pool league for many years. He spent his spare time hunting and working on cars. He loved his wife dearly and always made sure she had money for Bingo. He loved his children and always kept his door open to everyone. While with friends and family he would tease and joke with them. He enjoyed listening to Indian music and sang it all around the house. He will be missed dearly. Thank you for all the prayers.
Garrett is preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Bearcub and Daniel BigLeggins; brothers and sisters; and 3 sons, Lynwood, who had perished in their house that burned, Shanon, and John, who both passed away due to health problems.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edith Welch BigLeggins of Frazer; children, Garrett (Margert) BigLeggins and Roger BigLeggins both of Poplar, Sarah (Wilbur) Keiser of Frazer, Garrett (Wanda) BigLeggins, Jr. of Frazer, Juanita (Maynard) Jones of Poplar, Lori (Stormy) BigLeggins of Billings, Robert (Rose) BigLeggins of Wolf Point, Tanya BigLeggins of Frazer, Vickie (Nate) Jefferson of Germany, and Patrick Follet of Frazer; grandchildren whom he raised as his own, Raymond Charles Johnston, Jr., Saya (Ray) BigLeggins of Billings, Edna (Noe) Jones Herne of Kansas, Amanda BigLeggins of Poplar, Jazmyne Martell of Frazer, and many, many, more.
A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 26 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the St. Josephs Cemetery in Frazer.
