Gary Alvstad, age 70, of Wolf Point, MT passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.
Gary F. Alvstad, the son of Gordon & Elizabeth (Godfred) Alvstad, was born on January 27, 1941 in Stanley, N.D. The family moved to Florence, MT for some years, where his dad farmed in the valley. They later sold the farm and moved to Westby, MT; where Gary graduated in 1959. After graduation, he attended Wahpeton School of Science in Wahpeton S.D, where he earned a plumbing degree.
Gary married Bonnie Urbach and had 2 children; Brian & Wendy Alvstad. He worked for Gene Swanson for awhile and later he went to work at Cenex before he became a law enforcement officer for the W.P. Police Department. Gary remarried to Ann RedDog and to this union they had 3 sons; Jason, & twin boys Jared& Justin Alvstad. He later went to work as a deputy for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department. After 32 years in law enforcement, he retired in 2001.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Gordon &Elizabeth Alvstad; nephew, Douglas Hammer; and his brother in law, Clifford Hammer.
Gary is survived by his children, Brian of Williston, ND , Wendy of Fargo, ND, Jason of Williston, Jared and Justin both of Wolf Point; many grandchildren; and sister, Delores (Thomas) Nordhagen of Williston.
Gary was a member of the Prairie Riders Motorcycle club. Gary loved his motorcycles as well as hunting and fishing. Also he carved diamond willows and loved working with guns and fixing things! Gary has many friends through out the county and will be missed by all.
A wake will be held 6 p.m. Sunday, October 23 at the Silver Wolf Casino in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 24 also at the Silver Wolf Casino in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the King Memorial Cemetery in Wolf Point.
