George Ronald Red Eagle, “Tokaheya Mani” (Walks First), age 46, of Poplar, MT passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Poplar Hospital with his family by his side.
George was born on December 28, 1968 to Gary “Buzzy” and Georgia Red Eagle in San Jose, CA. He carries the Indian name of Tokaheya Mani (Walks First). George sang with the Fort Kipp Jr’s and Red Nation singers when he was younger.
He is one of the original Fort Peck Sioux singers. George attended school in Poplar, Brockton, and Flandreau Indian School. His hobbies include playing dice, playing cards, and playing machines. George loved to spend time with his family and friends. George had no children, but he took Ann St. Germaine as his own. He raised her since she was a baby. George was known as “Dada” to all his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was always telling jokes and sharing a laugh. His smile will surely be missed.
George is survived by his mother, Georgia Red Eagle of Poplar; sister, Georell (Terry) Red Eagle; brother, Gerred (Jen) Red Eagle of Poplar; adopted brothers, Delray Smith and Archie Bear Cub, Jr. both of Poplar, and Alvin Spotted Elk of Wolf Point; adopted sisters, Amanda Bull Chief and Maureen (Rick) Dionne of Poplar; aunts, Gloria (Bob) Garcia of San Jose, CA, Pauline Boxer, Reba Ogle, Doreen Red Eagle, Joann Browning, and Illona Jo Matthews all of Poplar; uncles, John Youpee, Pierre Youpee, and Everett Jones all of Poplar; grandmothers, Lorraine Stormy, Rita Long Chase, and Florence Youngman all of Poplar; grandfather, Mike Youngman of Poplar; nieces, Gerrae Red Eagle, Dorell and Donelle Black Thunder, Faith Red Eagle, Ann St. Germaine, and Mandy Red Eagle all of Poplar; nephews, Travis Black Thunder, Jeremy St. Germaine, Gary Red Eagle, Jesse and Harold Red Eagle all of Poplar; grandchildren, Gerra Ann Red Eagle, Geoffrey Adam, and Winter Black Dog all of Poplar and Kovawn Red Eagle of Ft. Kipp, MT.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gary Red Eagle, Sr.; brothers, Gary Red Eagle, Jr., Geoffrey Red Eagle, and Harold Red Eagle, Jr.; sister, Genine Red Eagle; paternal grandparents, Elmer Red Eagle and Mary Red Eagle; maternal grandparents, Josephine Youngman, and Jesse Wakan; and numerous adopted brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles on both sides of his family.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, December 1 at the Activity Center in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 2 also at the Activity Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Box Elder Cemetery in Poplar.
