Glenn Nelson Strader, 77, of Wolf Point passed away at his home on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024. He was born to Alfred and Hazel (Catlin) Strader at his Aunt Helen Mitchell’s house in Frankfort, KS, on Oct. 30, 1946. Glenn accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at age 14. His first job was with Strader Drilling Company for $3 an hour.
After graduating from Sabetha High School in 1964, Glenn attended Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO, and Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE. He met his wife, Maxine Toavs, at college and told other students they were already dating before they actually were. Maxine recognized his voice on the phone as someone from her speech class! They were married in Wolf Point, Montana, on Aug. 20, 1966.
In 1967, Glenn received his “License to Preach” from his American Baptist Church in Sabetha, Kansas, and was ordained into the ministry at his first church, the Bancroft Community Church, at Goff, Kansas. Their daughter Helen was born during this time. Glenn later served churches in Stella, NE and Shubert, NE. Two sons, Rodney and Gerald were also born during this time.
In 1979, Glenn was self-employed with Strader Construction. The family moved to Wolf Point, Montana, Maxine’s hometown. There he worked at Citizen’s Bank and United Grain Corporation as a bookkeeper. In 1986, Glenn and Maxine went back to college and obtained their teacher’s licenses in Minot, North Dakota. Glenn graduated with a BSE in business and psychology and then taught business, computer, and yearbook classes at the Jr/Sr High School at Wolf Point. Maxine received a BSE degree with a Masters in Special Education and also taught in Wolf Point schools.
Glenn retired after 16 years of teaching in the 2011-12 school year. While semi-retired, he could be seen working at the Agland Hardware Store and Dollar Store in Wolf Point. Currently Glenn was working as a bookkeeper for the Fort Peck Water Users on the Missouri River.
For fun, Glenn enjoyed riding his ATV in the country and playing dominoes with family. He was always quick to tell jokes and liked playing practical jokes on family and friends. He gifted Bibles to others and prayed for all.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Hazel Strader, and his brothers, Leroy and Ronald Strader of Kansas and grandson Benjamin Welte. He is survived by his wife of Wolf Point, Maxine Strader, children: Helen Welte, Rodney (Jodi) Strader, and Gerald Strader, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
