Harold Kuehne

May 23, 1941 — January 14, 2025

Kalispell

Harold Kuehne, a devoted husband, father, and skilled artisan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th, at 11:10pm in Logan Hospital of Kalispell. He was surrounded by his loving wife, three adoring children, and daughter-in-law who admired him greatly.

Harold was born on May 23, 1941, as the third son of Henry and Nina Kuehne. He spent his early years on the family farm, where he developed a deep love for agriculture and livestock. Helping his father farm and raise cattle, Harold learned the values of hard work and dedication. He pursued higher education at Northern Montana College in Havre, earning a degree in Agricultural Science.

As his father retired, Harold took over the family farming and ranching business, continuing the traditions. Horseback riding became a part of his daily life, especially during the large community branding parties that were an annual highlight in the area. In 1968, Harold married the love of his life, Alice Ann Schlepp. Together, they raised four children: Edward Arthur, April Amber, Deborah Lynn, and John Alan. Tragically, their son John preceded Harold in death in 1990.

Seeking new adventures, Harold attended Saddle Making School in Bishop, California. Following this passion, he and Alice sold their farm and moved to Columbus, Montana, where they opened a saddle shop. Harold's craftsmanship attracted many customers who sought his beautiful, expertly made saddles. Beyond his saddle-making, he took on extra jobs, including working as a grounds manager at the Columbus golf course, always striving to provide for his family.

Harold was a man of varied interests, with a particular passion for model trains and Louis L’Amour books. His friends and family will remember him as tough but kind, generous, funny, and loving. His laughter and immense love left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

This past March, Harold and Alice made the decision to move to Kalispell to be closer to family. Though his time in Kalispell was brief, it was filled with the love and presence of his cherished family.

Harold's legacy is one of dedication, love, and craftsmanship. His memory will be treasured by his wife, Alice, his children Edward, April, and Deborah, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed immensely, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

Rest in peace, Harold Kuehne. Your big laugh and even greater love will never be forgotten. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home in Kalispell is serving the family.
