Harry Iron Bear Jr.

August 11, 1950 — August 22, 2016

Harry Darrel “Hokshena” Iron Bear Jr., Walks with the Eagles, left unexpectedly for the spirit world on Monday, August 22, 2016 of natural causes. Oak was born on August 11, 1950 to the cute Harry and Mary Iron Bear.

Oak attended school in Poplar then went to Kicking Horse Job Corps Ronan, MT. He enlisted in the USMC in 1968 serving his country in Vietnam. Oak received a citation Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V” Honor for saving his comrades without hesitation for his own safety. He was Honorably Discharge in 1970.

In 1974 he married Medina Chaser and adopted her daughter, Vinsue Chaser as his own. Together they had 4 children Harry III, William Travis, Amanda Joy, and Heather Dawn. They later divorced in 1986.

Oak enjoyed rodeos, being a bull rider, powwows, hunting and fishing. He loved to sing and dance and having a good time with family and friends.

Oak is preceded in death by his long-time partner Shannon Eder, whom he loved dearly; his parents, Harry and Mary; brothers, Merle and Alfred; sisters, Betty Jo and Sandra Adams; niece, Amber Iron Bear; nephew, Troy Olson; and sister-in-law, Lanelle Iron Bear.

Oak is survived by his sons, Harry III and William Travis; daughters, Amanda, Heather, and Vinsue; sisters, Linda (Dave) Lezard, Beth (Jake) White Bull, Myra (Jon) Daniels, Cheryl (Butch) Boyd, Charmaine (Sherwin) Iron Bear, and Gloria Buckles; sister-in-law, Marzetta Iron Bear; adopted daughter, Steffie Eagle Boy; adopted sister, Pauline Boxer; brothers, Lonnie Iron Bear, James (Son) Iron Bear, Anthony (Patrice) Iron Bear, and Ivan Roberts; adopted brothers, Tom Escarcega and Bobby Long Fox; and uncles, Arnold Eagle Boy and Jr. Grey Bull. Oak has 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. His extended families are the Eagle Boy, Red Eagle, Long Fox, Merculieff, and Jones family.
