Harry Three Stars Jr.

Harry Paul (Sonny) Three Stars Jr. – Yellow Knife (Mina Zi’) was called home to be with the Creator on September 25, 2022.

Harry Jr. was born on November 20, 1963 in Poplar, MT to Hazel (Lester) and Harry Three Stars Sr.

He attended Poplar Elementary and Poplar High School graduating in 1982. He also attended Red River High School in Grand Forks, ND for a period of time. During his high school years, he participated in football and basketball. He attended Fort Peck Community College receiving his AAS in Automotives. He also attended Rocky Mountain College receiving a Bachelors in Business Administration. Harry worked for the Fort Peck Tribes in various programs throughout his life; A&S tribal industries, Juvenile Detention Center/Transitional Living Unit, and Tribal Health from 2007 to present. Harry practiced his cultural ways of life, he was told at a young age to carry a tape recorder to learn the songs, during his high school years while living with his brother, Roy is when he began singing. He sang with Red Nation, Badlands Ft. Peck Sioux, and many other drum groups singing at powwows throughout Indian Country. Harry loved spending time with family and friends. He always had time for his friends, lending a helping hand, giving advice when asked or sharing a joke to enlighten someone’s day. As brothers do, he had a special bond with his brother Roy, sister-in-law Madonna and their children. He especially LOVED his sons and grandsons, and would do anything and everything for them. He spent the majority of his life with his wife, Marva. Harry was a hardworking, compassionate man. He enjoyed working on cars and had exceptional mechanical skills which enabled him to fix many things.

Harry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marva; sons, Harry Three Stars III, Ethan Three Stars, Joe Buckles, and Preston Low Dog; grandsons, Thaddeus Jackson, Harry Three Stars IV, Joe Azure Jr., and Tyde Gouley; granddaughters, Shallen Azure, Johnni Gouley, Haven Gouley, and Kaleah White Bear; great-grandson, Logan Hurkes; aunt, Louise Smith; brother, Roy Azure III (Madonna); sisters, Kathy and Mary Lou Azure; sisters-in-law, Trivian Nault (Norman), Lynette Boyd (Eugene), and Carol Bemer; nephews, Joe Azure Sr., Geoffrey Eagle Boy, Loise Jr., David, Johnathon Magnan, Cody White Bear, Frank Half Red, Christian Nault; nieces, Genevieve Azure Poitra, Ida Magnan, Carrie Lee Smith, Ashley Cantrell, Elizabeth and Patricia Lambert, and Lynell Gouley.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Sarah Three Stars and Clayton and Lulu Lester; parents, Hazel and Harry Three Stars Sr.; sister, Sarah Three Stars; uncles, Clayton Lester, Peter Three Stars, Alonzo Three Stars; aunts, Elizabeth DeCoteau, Birdie Sanchez, Luella Brown; sister-in-law, Dorine Young Bear; and nephews, Roy Azure IV, Orlando Young, Mycel Young and Noble Drags Wolf.

Harry had numerous family members and friends, please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone. Harry was LOVED by his family and will truly be missed!

A wake will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, October 2 at the Poplar Cultural Center. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 3 at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
