Janis Wilma Spotted Bird left this world to join her family who passed on before her in the happy hunting grounds. Losing our “Jimi” has left a void in our hearts and family that will never be filled.
Janis was born in Williston, ND on July 12, 1980 to Royce Spotted Bird Sr. and Junia Walking Eagle. She attended school in Poplar, MT and in Brockton, MT. She also attended Kicking Horse Job Corp in Ronan, MT.
Janis was the best sister we could have asked for. We were truly blessed. She loved all her siblings very much and was close to each and every one of us. She enjoyed listening to music, visiting with family and friends, taking country cruises, watching scary movies and spending time with her girls, Keauni Joy and Kiara Jae. She was a second mother to all her nieces and nephews, her home was always open to them. Janis had also gotten close very close with her special baby Benson, who she called Benny Boo Boo, and her “hunka hunka handsome” grandson, Braxton Wayne Spotted Bird, the last few months of her life.
Janis is survived by her twin girls, Keauni Joy Strikes Many of Poplar, MT and Kiara Jae Strikes Many of Brockton, MT. Her father, Royce John Spotted Bird and stepmother Jackie B. (Stormy) Spotted Bird of Brockton, MT; stepfather, Wayne Jones of Wolf Point, MT; sisters Jackie P. Spotted Bird, Catherine Ida Spotted Bird, Kristen Big Leggins, Angie Wallowing Bull all of Poplar, MT and Brittany Whiteman of Seattle, WA ; brothers Royce John Spotted Bird Jr. and Michael McClammy of Poplar, MT; Dwain Spotted Bird Sr. of Wolf Point, MT and Rodney Drum of Brockton, MT; aunts Patsy (Bud) Two Bulls, Debbie Walking Eagle, Verdis Grey Bull, Candice Spotted Bird and Charlene Drum all of Poplar, MT and Lorna Drum of Brockton, MT; uncle Donald Walking Eagle Jr. of Wolf Point, MT; special nieces Hannah, Ashlyn, Kilyn, Misty Dawn, Mackenzie, Madison, Miley, Shayla and D’laine; special nephews HaRyzin, her Benson Boo Boo, Cameron, Frank, Jayceon and Aiden; cousins Eddie, Kelly, Tony, Charles “Lil Bud”, Walkin, Emmett, Benji, George Jr, Jordan, Brian, Steven, Trey, Merrill, Casey, John Two Raven, Teddy, George, Alfred Jr., Jack and Buddy; Lydania, Stacey, Kayleen, Dani, Lee Marie, Talon, Adreia, Alyssa, Alex and Sami, Latasha, Theda, LouLou, Yolanda, Chili and Ida; her adopted sisters Raquel “Bella” White Hawk and Larissa Jo Spotted Bird; good friends Paula Firemoon and Ben Brien. She is also survived by more nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention, but she loved each and every one of them.
Janis is preceded in death by her daughter, Jenna Spotted Bird, mother Junia Walking Eagle-Jones, grandmothers Catherine Spotted Bird, Ida Walking Eagle, grandfathers, Gary Drum and Donald Walking Eagle Sr.; sisters Jonna Spotted Bird and Sherry McClammy; brother Mark McClammy nephews Dwain Jr. and Baylor Spotted Bird and John LaSart; special aunt Mildred Ricker-Salveson; special uncle George ”Porgie” Walking Eagle; cousins Charlene “Charley” Walking Eagle and Tina Whiteman.
If we have forgotten anyone, please forgive us during our time of grief. Janis has a large family, both immediate and extended.
A wake will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 7pm. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11am. Both will be held at the Poplar Cultural Center.
