Jason Walking Eagle

Jason Dale Walking Eagle “Tatanka Wacin” Dancing Buffalo was born to Lorna Drum and Alfred Walking Eagle, Sr. on September 15, 1989 in Williston, ND.

Although he was raised by his mother, he had uncles that helped raise him and looked up to, John Spotted Bird, Bear Roberts, Turbo Boyd, the late Chuck Spotted Bord, Bernard Youpee, Rocky Youpee, Sr., and Paul White Bear.

In his teenage years Jason would jump on the Amtrak and head to Fort Belknap where his cousin Faith Bird tail would pick him up and powwow the weekend with his nephews and cousins Assiniboine Cree.

Jason graduated from Brockton High School in 2008. After graduating hi moved to Rapid City to live with and take care of his late Grandma Delores Hayes. While there he worked at taco bell. Jason then moved to Spirit Lake with Hunka brother Richard and Lonna Street and family where he traveled and sang all over the United States at sundances making friends wherever he went. While living with Richard and Lonna, Jason learned the art of porcupine quillwork, Jason made some beautiful hatbands, earrings and bracelets.

While growing up Jason hung around with his cousins Raymond Olson, Courtney Hayes, Allery BlackDog, Eli Jones, Elwade Rush, the late Armon Poohz Boyd, Warshield White, his brother Ian and the Badlands Crew hanging out at Lorna’s house.

In 2002 the boys started their own drum group and sang for their Grandma Viola Spotted Bird and went by Tatanka Wacin “Dancing Buffalo”. After two years the boys were given the name badland Singers by their late Grandpa Leland Spotted Bird and late uncle Chuck Spotted Bird. The young Badland boys traveled to many powwows and won many singing contests. In 2011 they won the singing contest at United Tribes. They also placed at other powwows. The young Badland singers recorded two CD’s, one was sundance songs and the other Intertribal powwow songs. Jason was given a flute from Walter RunsAbove.

Jason is survived by his mother Lorna, father Alfred Walking Eagle, Sr., sister Sami Lyn (nieces & nephew Sosi, Viola Marie and Lily Faith), brother Ian (Bridgette, niece Lilah Belle and nephew Adonis), aunts Verdis (Russell), Charlene Drum, uncles Richard (Sun) GreyBull of Enterprise, AL, Joel GreyBull, John (Jackie) Spotted Bird and Silas Drum, Arthur and Ashley GreyBull, his Grandma Doris Spotted Bird, his special cousin Wakinyan Roberts, and Rodney Drum, aunts Patsy TwoBulls, Debbie Walking Eagle, Richard and Lonna Street, uncle Jim (Marty) Dillon, many cousins of Fort Totten, ND, Lamberts, Drum, Spotted Bird, Bear, Crawford of South Dakota, Walking Eagle and Ricker.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences for the family may be left using the form below.
