Jenice Ione (Long) Davis, age 71, of Wolf Point, Montana passed away Friday, May 16, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Billings, Montana quite unexpectedly.
Jenice was born on November 15, 1936 in McCone County, Montana on the home place south of Wolf Point to Ray and Anna (Aadsen) Long. She was delivered by a mid-wife in her 80’s, Mrs. William Busse. Jenice lived on the farm until she was around 8 years old when her father died. Jenice, her mother, Anna, and her sister, Doris, moved into a two-room house in town. Anna later bought a four-room home where Jenice lived until graduation from high school. After graduation Jenice stayed all summer at the Stuart Wright ranch, cooking and helping out with the children. As winter set is she moved back to town and worked at Liberty Theatre for the Severson family.
Jenice met the love of her life, Larry Davis, at a dance at Coll School. They were married October 15, 1958. Jenice and Larry had many eventful years together, Jenice traveling with Larry as he worked the oil rigs, living in Ray, North Dakota and Willow Springs, Wyoming, and later living on the Malloy place while Larry worked for Cal Farnham. They later ventured into various businesses, among them the Westland Oil Station, the family farm south of Wolf Point and the Stockman’s Bar and Restaurant. Jenice was always the silent partner (except for the few instances when she was not so silent), and provided the brains while Larry provided the brawn. Jenice was an excellent bookkeeper, a very kind and generous employer, a fantastic cook and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her children and granddaughters deeply and cherished the time spent with them.
During her life, Jenice enjoyed fishing and camping (going on several fishing trips to the coast), hunting skunks (ask Allan about that one) and she loved cooking for and entertaining their many friends and neighbors. Jenice was also a 4-H Leader, taking on the cooking meetings where many a good and probably bad dish was prepared—but everyone had so much fun no one cared.
Jenice had a great sense of humor. In just a few minutes she could have you laughing and giggling with her about simple everyday life, usually tattling on herself. She was dearly, clearly, loved by all.
Preceding Jenice in death was her husband, Larry, her mother, Anna, father, Ray, and four siblings, Clarence, Hazel, Bud and Shorty. Survivors include: daughter, Donna (Fred) Mihelich and granddaughters, Tessa and Jenice , all of Riverton, Wyoming; son, Scott, granddaughter, Shannel, and sisters, Doris Hanks and Verine Hansen, all of Wolf Point.
