Joan Elaine Peters, 59, of Wolf Point, MT, was surrounded by her family as she passed away on April 5th, 2023, following complications from a heart attack.
Joan was born on February 24, 1964, to William “Bill” and Ina Claire Squires in Wolf Point, MT. During high school, Joan was class president and enjoyed participating in the National Honor Society, Pep Club, cheerleading, and playing her flute in the Wolf Point High School Symphonic Band.
After Joan graduated as Valedictorian from Wolf Point High School in 1982, she went on to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and then Montana State University – Northern in Havre, Montana.
After graduating with an associate degree, she started working with her mother and father at Squires Insurance as an insurance agent, and eventually took ownership of the business in 1988 when her father retired.
In 1979, Joan met Steven Peters at a Wolf Point High School dance. Joan and Steven were married in 1984 and went on to have two daughters, Savannah and Jocelyn. Together they enjoyed traveling to rodeos and the adventures that came with living on the farm, including raising goats, sheep, llamas, donkeys, pigs, chickens, cats, rabbits, geese, or any other animal her daughters asked for.
Many would describe Joan as a sassy redhead with a quick wit, infectious laugh, and great sense of humor. She was strong-willed and stubborn. Joan enjoyed going on walks and to the river with her dogs, traveling to see her daughters, gambling in Las Vegas, golfing, going to Stampede, visiting with those who did business at Squires Insurance, and attending any event with a parade. She was very proud of her Wolf Point community and enjoyed serving for several years on the City Council and for the Faith Home Foundation since 2016. Her faith was very important to her, and she was actively involved in multiple ways at the Immaculate Conception Church.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Ina Claire Squires, her grandparents, Stella and Olaf Malde, Glen and Margaret Squires, her mother-in-law, Phyllis Peters, and her beloved dogs Blue, Babe, Jack, Victor and Thomas.
