Joan Lucille Fast Horse, age 57, of Poplar, MT was taken home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 13, 2008.
Joanne was born March 18, 1951 in Poplar to Irene Martin Philbrick and Raymond Buckles. She was adopted and raised by George and Julia Fast Horse (her grandparents). She was raised and attended school in Brockton, MT.
In 1966 Joanne met the love of her life, Stephen Big Talk, and together they had two daughters, Bernadine Annie and Denise Ann, also grandchildren Joseph, Tracie and Dean Eagleman, Derrick Fast Horse, Devin and Heavenly Hall, Robert Azure III, Trisha and Alfred Longee, and Kiahlee Fast Horse.
Joanne worked for Norman and Vera Hollow, Sonny and Doremis Bighorn, Spike and Roxanne Bighorn and Jack and Bernadine Ayers.
Joanne is survived by her daughter, Denise Fast Horse of Poplar, adopted children through Indian custom, two daughters Jena Jones of Oklahoma and Kara Red Dog of Poplar and a son Wayne First of Fort Kipp; grandchildren, Tracey and Dean Eagleman of Billings, Derrick and Kiahlee Fast Horse of Williston, ND, Trisha and Alfred Longee of Poplar, and Robert Azure III of Wolf Point; adopted granddaughter through Indian custom, Julia (Baby J) Carpentier of Poplar; mother and step-father, Irene and Nelson Philbrick of Brockton; sisters, Gloria Diserly of Poplar, Karen (Craig) Cain of Poplar, Roberta Lone Bear of Poplar and Delphine Lone Bear of Brockton, and Patricia Philbrick of Brockton; brothers, Dave Fast Horse, Sr. of Billings, Adelbert Jr. of Poplar, Marty of Poplar, Gerald of Poplar, and Daryl (Noreen) Lone Bear of Brockton; aunts, Pearl Hopkins of Poplar, Louise Ell of Poplar, Gloria Chopper of Poplar, Victoria Joshua of Cannon Ball, ND, Angeline Iron Road of Solen, ND, Henrietta Star of Williston, ND, and Karen Wise Spirit of Cannon Ball, ND; uncle, Virgil Lonnie Wise Spirit of Cannon Ball, ND; grandmother, Lorraine Stormy of Poplar; grandfather, Wallace Wakan of Poplar; special cousins, Sly of Poplar, Jake of Poplar, Leo of Poplar, Bernice Martin of Poplar, Betty Martin of Poplar, Delphine Plenty Chief of Cannon Ball, Dave Jr. of Billings, Dion Fast Horse of Poplar, Dirk Fast Horse of Billings, Danny Fast Horse of Miles City, Bella Lester of Wolf Point, Marvin Fast Horse of Poplar, Melvine Birthmark of Poplar, Diana Diserly of Poplar, Dina Diserly of Poplar, Frank Diserly of Poplar, and Earlene Jones of Poplar; special friends, Karla Red Thunder of Poplar, and Clifford Jerome of Poplar; many others too numerous to mention; a very dear and special friend, Calvin Melbourne of Brockton, who, together, they raised their grandson, Derrick Fast Horse; brother-in-law, Matt Bigtalk of Brockton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joan is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Buckles; her grandparents, Tom and Mary Buckles; her adopted parents, George and Julia Fast Horse; her late husband, Steven Big Talk; brothers, Lawrence Fast Horse and Max Lone Bear; nephew and niece, Jeremy and Cricket Lone Bear; uncles, Thomas and Leo Jasper Martin, Arthur Buckles; sister, Flora Fast Horse; aunts, Cecelia Martin, Ruth Martin, Lorraine Snell and Virginia Big Talk; also Guy and Tony Jones and Samson and Allen Martin and grandson, Joseph Eagleman.
A Wake will be held Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Poplar Cultural Center with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Brockton.
