Joel Glenn Sparvier, 53, went peacefully on his journey on February 24, 2016 in Denver, Colorado.
Joel was born on September 27, 1962 to Eugene Sparvier and Savannah Eagle Boy. He grew up and attended schools and college in Poplar. He worked at A&S Industries, as an EMT, census taker, and worked with the Tribal Election Committee.
Joel loved to travel. His ventures led him to live in Seattle, Denver, and Albuquerque and a few other places. He loved to spend time visiting his friends and relatives. He loved to tell his stories, play and laugh with his grandkids, do beadwork, and cook.
Joel is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alexander Sparvier and Georgia Smoker, and Matthew Eagle Boy and Rose No Breast; parents, Eugene Sparvier and Savannah Eagle Boy; sisters, Dallas Eagle Boy, Emerald Olney, Sandra Adams, Jonita Parshall, and Perthina Sparvier; and grandsons, Xavier and Jay Lee.
He is survived by his sisters, Verdine (Allen) Russell and Kimberly Sparvier of Poplar; brother, Robin Sparvier of Harlem, MT; nieces, Yolanda Parshall, Laura Eagle Boy, Raven (Manny) Lee, Savannah Sparvier, Chelsea Sparvier, Aerial Carpentier, and Traci Russell; nephews, Michael Russell, Corey Olney, Shand Olney, Nelson Olney, Joshua Sparvier, and NoahSparvier; uncles, Arnold Eagle Boy, Robin Sparvier, Gay Sparvier; aunts, Beverly Sparvier, and Shirley Sparvier; brother, Lonnie Iron Bear; and sister, Doremis Eagle Boy.
Joel’s other surviving family members extend from the Eagle Boy and No Breast families in Montana and North Dakota, Sparvier and Smoker families in Saskatchewan, Canada. The family apologizes for not naming everyone individually, as our relatives are too numerous to name.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
