John Bruce Fowler, age 81, of Wolf Point, MT passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012.
John was born May 22, 1931 on a farm in southern Sask. Canada, to William and Margaret (Bruce) Fowler. He was the oldest of 5 boys. John attended Gladmar School thru the 8th grade. He then took correspondence classes for 2 years.
His family moved to Plentywood, MT in the fall of 1948. His dad sold the farm and purchased 2 combines and 2 trucks. The family began a career as “Custom cutters”. John worked for the City of Plentywood. He also worked on farms in the Plentywood area. One summer, he and his best friend, Stanley Nichols, worked for Western Seismograph. In 1951, these two young men joined the Montana National Guard, where John remained for 11 years. This is when he began his career as a mechanic. In 1963, John was hired as a mechanic at the Department of Transportation in Wolf Point. He later became the shop foreman there. He retired from the Department in 1993.
John met the love of his life in 1952, Elizabeth Graham. They were married in a double wedding ceremony with Elizabeth’s sister, Jessie and John’s best friend, Stanley. The the union of John and Elizabeth, were born 4 sons- Dale, Glenn, John, and Donnie as well as one daughter, Susan.
John joined the Wolf Point Fire Department in 1971, retiring after 20 years of service. Other than fixing cars, John had a passion for building Model T’s. He built 3 Model T’s through the years.
John is survived by his wife, Liz and their children; brothers- Robert Fowler of Plentywood and Allan (Judy) Fowler of Pahokee, FL; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
