Joseph Merle Leggett

Joseph M Leggett, 77, Wolf Point Vietnam Veteran. Joe was born is Sherrodsville, Ohio on December 2, 1937. Joe was born to Thomas and Mabel Leggett and attended Conotton Valley High School and participated in football, basketball and baseball.

Joe joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and served in Thailand, Johnson Island, Hawaii and various stateside assignments.  On October 14, 1961, Joe married Margaret Brunelle in Great Falls, Montana.  Joe was honorably discharged in 1969 and moved home to Sherrodsville.  Joe and Margaret had three kids, Thomas Patrick, Thelma Ann and Joseph Allen.  In 1970, Joe moved his family to Wolf Point, Montana.  Joe and Margaret celebrated their 54 th wedding anniversary this year.

Joe worked several jobs in his life; he was a cook, janitor, and installed phone line in the Glasgow High School. But his love was cars.  He owned a ‘57 Pontiac Starchief and Plymouth Fury with a Hemi. Joe decided to attend the North Dakota State School of Science and earned his Auto Mechanics certificate. Joe returned to Wolf Point and went to work for Hovey Stone Chevrolet and later Moe Chevrolet in Poplar. Many know Joe from the Git-N-Go in Wolf Point and the farmer’s market and Poplar Community Center Flea Market.

Joe enjoyed his huge garden, watching football and TV. He was especially proud of his Wolf Point Wolves and Poplar Indians. Joe was always watching his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sons play high school sports.

Joe was preceded in death by his son Thomas, parents, and siblings Waldon, Dale, Max, Jack, Paul, Theda, and Betty.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughter-in-law Delores of Wolf Point, daughter Thelma of Wolf Point, son Joseph Allen (Keri) of Great Falls, sister Kay (Chuck) McKinney of Dover, Ohio, brother Bob (Betty) Leggett of Sherrodsville, Ohio, 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
