Joslynn Marie Baker

January 25, 2005 — May 1, 2023

Joslynn Marie Baker, “Carries Her Blanket Woman”, 18, went Home on May 1, 2023 in her mother’s arms, at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She was surrounded by loved ones in prayer.

Joslynn was born in Sidney, MT to Mary and Royce Baker on January 23, 2005. She had one brother, Anthony Baker who went on before her. She attended schools in Missoula, MT and Billings, MT and most recently Skyview High School.

Joslynn was talented in any form of art imaginable. She loved to draw, paint, sing, sculpt, and do make up on anyone who was willing to be her canvas, including her beloved dog, Lily. Joslynn loved the outdoors, whether it was just a backyard or playground or day trip in the woods. She especially loved camping trips with Mark Gillett and her mom, where they would collect petrified wood, identify other rocks and fossils and loved to help build and play in the campfire. She loved being close to nature and was happy to build small fairy houses in the woods for all the fairies.

From a young age Joslynn knew the importance of having a spiritual relationship with God and how it relates to her bigger self and the world. This helped her overcome all obstacles in her life. Joslynn was selfless, generous, and put others before herself even when she was struggling. She was a “mother hen” to her little cousins Cora and Cali, often reminding them it was “time to get ready for bed” or “make sure they’re brushing their teeth.”

Joslynn was particularly proud of her fur baby Clementine, often saying that was her “daughter”, whom she personally raised since 6 weeks old. She had a gift for training animals and knew instinctively how to communicate with them.

Joslynn made the best of every situation and even in the most turbulent times in her life she kept her sense of humor and good nature. While having endured great pain and suffering physically and emotionally, Joslynn was able to find greater beauty and happiness in places that most wouldn’t see.

She is fondly remembered by her doctors, nurses and friends for her politeness and fighting spirit. Never one to give up or back down, knowing the odds were against her. Because of this, she has encouraged many people in their own battles and given inspiration to many whom she had never met.

While on her spiritual journey in this life, she was given the name of Quawaya, meaning the “mighty” or strong”, by an Islamic leader in the community.
