Joseph Saul McConnell, “Joe Mac”, born on October 27, 1938, passed away on May 8, 2015. He went to join the Creator, family and friends. Joseph was born and raised in Frazer, MT where he also went to school.
He was born to Fannie Shoots The Door and James McConnell, Sr. He loved the game of baseball and excelled as a pitcher. He was recruited to play for the Saint Louis Cardinals but an injury to his pitching hand prevented him from following his dream. He was a coach and able to take a team of girls from here called 10 Little Indians to state in Kalispell. The girls really respected Joe and he taught them well.
Joe was a law enforcement dispatcher in Frazer in the early 90’s. He also drove the activity bus in Frazer for the kids. He worked at A&S Industries and was also the bus driver. He loved to drive. He did furniture upholstery in Helena for several years.
Joe loved Indian music and going to Pow-Wows. He even sang when he had a chance or if someone handed him a drum stick, he would drum. Joe was an exceptional artist. He loved to draw. In his earlier years Joe did painting on cow shoulder blades that were most beautiful.
He was a pool shark. He won the state title playing horseshoes at Wolf Point Bridge Park. Joe’s favorite color was blue and he loved a “mean pork chop”. He taught the boxing club in Frazer for the youngsters. Joe was a tough bugger.
He met Kimberly White Hawk in 2007 and they were married. Joe so enjoyed the grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brothers Curtis and Russell, brother Jim McConnell, Jr., sisters Lena Wright, Rosella Murdock, Florence Buck and Myrtice Redstone; nephews Harold McConnell, Albert Murdock, Jr., Kurt Murdock, Norman Redstone; son Simon Follet; brothers-in-law Benny Todd, Sr., Albert Murdock, Sr., Justin Redstone, James Wright; granddaughters Angie Redstone, Tracy Redstone, Ariel Ackerman, Sandra Wright Keller and Skee Redstone.
He is survived by his wife Kim McConnell; step-children Zachary, Jared and Colista White Hawk; grandchildren MacKenzie White Hawk, Macario, Mackiera, and Mackiya Schindler; brother Richard McConnell (Teddi) of Billings; sister Ruth Todd of Frazer, Margaret June Martin and numerous relatives.
