Kenneth Eugene “Kenny” Devereaux, Jr., age 47, of Brockton, MT, went home to be with the lord, after a short term lung disease, on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at his home in Brockton.
Kenny was born on May 10, 1961 to Linda Mary RedBoy and the late Kenneth Devereaux, Sr. in Poplar, MT. He grew up in Brockton, attended grade school and high school in Brockton then received his G.E.D. in Illinois.
Kenny married Francine Janis in Eagle Butte, SD and together had two boys and two girls. They later divorced, but remained good friends.
He later met Debra Runsthrough and together they had two sons.
He worked at A&S Tribal Industries, Fort Peck Tribes Animal Control, was a Home Health Care Worker, Firefighter and Ranchhand. Kenny also loved root digging and yard work if anyone needed it; he would be there. Kenny was a great cook always trying a new recipe for his mom. He was there for her morning, noon and night being always by her side. He also loved to collecting hats, reading, doing crossword puzzles, poetry, listening to music, sitting around visiting with his family and friends (both young and old). He walked around running errands for everyone and he loved going to basketball games to watch his nephews play. His nephews and nieces thought he was the greatest, especially Kristen.
Kenny joined Makicu Church when he was twelve years old. He Walked For Christ, taking turns carrying the cross from Box Elder to Ft. Kipp and helped carry the cross from Riverside to Poplar. Kenny had a smile and hello for everyone he met.
Kenneth is survived by his mother, Linda Red Boy of Brockton, MT; three sons, Isaiah Devereaux of Glasgow, MT, Arthur and Quintin Devereaux of Frazer, MT and two daughters, Maurrita and Trista Devereaux of Great Falls, MT ; a special niece, Kristen Clark, whom he helped raise of the family home; brothers, Kevin Devereaux of Poplar and John (Vangie) Red Thunder, Jr. of Brockton, MT; sisters, Colleen Romero of Billings, MT, Grace Devereaux of Brockton, MT, Johnelle RedThunder Jones of Poplar, MT, Jamie (Clarence)RedThunder of Poplar, MT and a special aunt whom he called “Sis”, Kate Youpee of Brockton, MT; uncles Robert (Lou) Youpee, Sr. of Brockton, MT, Gus (Genine) Youpee of Poplar, MT, Leroy Devereaux of Browning, MT, Hank Devereaux of Browning, MT, Ernie Yuzicapi of Minot, ND and Sheldon (Illenda) Youpee of Poplar, MT; aunts Dolly Boyd of Poplar, MT, Sharon RedThunder of Poplar, MT, Millie (Marion) Runs Through of Poplar, MT, Jamie Youpee of Brockton, MT, Darlene Devereaux of Browning, MT and Cynthia (Alvin) Talks Different of Harlem, MT; nieces Dolly, Jamelle, Timberly, Joni, TeAira, Jennifer, Jenna and Cloe; nephews Tex, Fred, Wallace,Jr., Orville, Sonny, Whitey, Kaine and Dan; grandfathers, Jim Youpee of Brockton MT and Lloyd Youpee of Poplar, MT.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Devereaux, Sr.; wife Francine (Janis) Devereaux, a son, Kenneth Hoss Devereaux, sister, Denise Kay Conklin; grandparents, Jeanette Youpee, Jason and Irene Devereaux; uncles, Lester, Joseph, Gary and Thomas Youpee.
A traditional wake will be held on Friday July 18, 2008 at his sister, Kate Youpee’s house in Brockton, with family services at 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Brockton Cultural Center with Pastor Wayne Boyd, Jr. and Pastor Verl Follette officiating. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Brockton.
