Kermit Tjon

September 27, 1920 — February 4, 2011

Kermit Joseph Tjon, age 90, of Wolf Point, MT passed away February 4, 2011 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.

Kermit, son of Sjur and Lena Tjon, was born September 27, 1920 in a homestead shack in Kahle, MT.

Kermit graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1938 and went on to attend Kinman Business University in Spokane, WA for 3 years.

In 1946, Kermit married Brenda Nefzger in Great Falls, MT. To this union two children were born, Barry and Leta. Kermit and Brenda were married for 48 years until Brenda’s passing on Mothers Day in 1994.

He served as Roosevelt County Treasurer for 4 years. He joined Opgrand Accounting and purchased the firm in 1957, retiring in 1978. He was actively involved in farming his whole life and proud of the fact that at the age of 85 he was still able to operate his combine.

Kermit enjoyed fishing and hunting birds. He also liked to play golf, dance and play bridge. At the age of 60, he took up running and participated in 5k and 10k races until the age of 79.

Kermit was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church, Elks Club and Masonic Lodge, AlBedoo Shrine Temple, Hi-line Shrine Club, and Mesa Shrine Club. He wintered in Mesa, AZ and was a member of the Apache Wells Country Club, serving as auditor for 23 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Leta (Monte) Wicka of Charlo, MT; son, Barry (Irene) Tjon of Wolf Point; grandsons, Jason (Renee) Sargent of St. Ignatius, MT, Zak (Tawndi) Sargent of Cheeney, WA, and Tyson Tjon of Wolf Point; granddaughter, Savannah (Scott) Tjon of Wolf Point; great grandchildren, Jordan, Barret, and Canyon of St. Ignatius, Halle and Kate of Cheeney, and Kamber of Wolf Point; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kermit is preceded in death by his wife; parents; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If friends desire, the family requests memorials be made to the Wolf Point 100 Club, First Lutheran Church, or the charity of ones choice.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
